I had a feeling i knew how this would turn out before i even patched after work. It only took 2 matches to confirm my suspicions. 50 Heatcap is brokenly absurd. Some guys on here keep advocating it makes everything perfect. But is it really perfect when every single mech can alpha strike everything all the time? I actually got bored with how well every mech performed. I know this is testing and we are testing "FOR SCIENCE" but come on, i think we all knew how this round was going to turn out. The 50 heatcap exasperates the alpha strike problem from live rather than curbing it. Heat is an afterthought now and not to be feared at all. I was going to write something longer but i think that really sums up my feelings about it.
So when is PTS 2.2?

I played plenty of mechs that could alpha strike less frequently on PTS 2.1 then they could on live, particularly in the first 3-4 firing cycles from cold. Yes, they had better dps if they were riding the heat threshold later, but if you're playing a big alpha build, you're already in trouble if you're having to do that (getting pushed, etc.).
I think Navid's charts show that a number of "meta" builds do less damage over the first 10-20 seconds then they do live.
Give and take, but I would've quit the game with 2.0. I can maybe live with 2.1, but I still prefer live.

So for the good of MWO, the good of the game, and the good of balance, i think you quitting is totally acceptable. But maybe... just maybe if you give it a chance and see how the game evolves from the changes you might find that it would be much more fun and enjoyable to play when everyone isn't alpha striking all the time.

Well isn't that sweet. Straight up, all my favorite non-meta, small alpha, fun to play builds were far less fun on PTS 2.0. I'm not a meta player at all, and I got jobbed. But PGI can certainly afford to lose more paying, regular players. Seriously, when I started playing a mere 2.5 years ago, I liked the general mechanics. Since then we've seen PPC/Gauss get nerfed into extinction. Small pulse lasers go the way of the dodo. SRM spread go through the roof. All the while losing players. Nerfing mechs, weapons and builds is not the whey. But PGI hasn't been able to make the association. PTS 2.0 was a major nerf to a huge number of mechs and weapons. PTS 2.1 doesn't feel so much like a nerf, but more like a repositioning. I think that's a good thing. I hope we can find some common ground.

I felt that PTS2.0 actually improved the underdogs.
Not sure if it was because the big volleys were reduced or something else, but I had fun again just playing with my 4 PPC marauder.
Not so much on PTS2.1 as my 4 PPC marauder is still not efficient enough and other builds can just blast through me in the same time.
I've seen SRM boats and UAC10/5 boats such as Cyclops or MC2.
on the other hand a plain old 4xUAC5 king crab could not hold the line.
There are definitely problems on the full spectrum of mechs and builds, but I think its better to get longer TTK somehow.

Then if you do not enjoy the balance of what everyone else is saying on the Forums and Reddit, then perhaps you should step away for a while. Go play some other FPS, come back after the Balance changes have been made, and let the majority enjoy it for a while. Perhaps then it will change back to how you like it. But until that day comes are loving the new system and want it to go live Because they see the balance the majority wanted for years. It's ok to disagree, but if you don't enjoy the current majority opinion and threaten to quit if you don't get your way, then take a break for a while. We all need a break from time to time.

Dude, just stop. You're being a sanctimonious ****. You don't know what "the majority" think because you're not sampling the entire MWO population in a statistically sound manner. I enjoy the balance of the game as it is. If you're going to tell someone to go away (I'm always amazed that anyone thinks this game can afford to lose any players right now - especially those that are actively involved in day to day conversations about the state of the game, who choose to do every PTS, etc.), then maybe it ought to be the people who want to make wholesale changes to how the game works. If you don't like it, why the f*** are you playing it to begin with?
The point is, every time PGI does a serious nerf or big mechanic change, they hemorrhage players. It certainly happened after the Skill Tree went live (which didn't do jack for improving game experience or playability). And when word got out that Russ was actually considering going back to 8v8 all the players that claimed "the majority" wanted it suddenly found out that an equal number of people clearly didn't want it, they just didn't realize it was being seriously considered. When they did, they promptly said, "hell, no".
The same thing applied to energy draw. And the outrage over the proposed Clan laser nerfs a few months ago scared PGI's accountants to death with all the mechpack cancellations. Then we had PTS 1.0 which again was soundly rejected. Maybe, just maybe, that might indicate that people don't want big changes. Little changes, made bit by bit are not only easier to tune, but also far more palatable to the playerbase. Which is why its so perplexing that PGI couldn't just nerf C-ERML and C-HLL by 1 and 2 pts dmg each and see how it went. 8-12% off the big alphas, problem solved, here's a cookie.
As it stands, PTS 2.1 has some give and take whereas PTS 2.0 took, took and took some more. And 2.1 doesn't change playstyles so substantially as to alienate a big part of the playerbase. It needs some work, but its far closer to a reasonable change than 2.0 was. That's why I was 99% against 2.0 (excluding mobility changes), but have offered tentative support to 2.1.

haha, well with that statement it Sounds like you just want to get your opinion and dont care about all the other people. But thats your choice. Either way, if the Majority wants these changes then I am happy with their choices. And I can't wait to play with them. Like I said, if you are threatening to quit because they want something different than you do, then go right ahead. I will play with them and stay because I like all these guys opinions. They want to play, and they dont threaten others with harsh words and a temper. If you dont like it, you have the freedom to leave, and that is totally ok.
