Just look at the number of assault mechs in the opposing team. I'm pretty sure it's not OK.

Lately matchmaker was really quick to find a match, but it did so without any tonnage balance in mind. Seems like someone either broke it or deliberately disabled it.

Judging by the fact that the enemy team had assaults in the alpha lance, you were facing a premade/group or two.
I don't think this is the matchmaker's fault.

Working as intended. Per the post Tina posted a few years ago, it is up to each group to to utilize their tonnage as they see fit.

Though this thread was started almost 3 weeks ago, that is the Group queue which is only made up of pre-mades. The MM purpose is simply to get a drop to occur, it does not try to even out the tonnage. iirc, PSR used is the average PSR for each group, nor is the PSR setup to drop only Tier 1 with Tier 1, or Tier 3 with just Tier 3. The real issue is that several did not even try to utilize the weight limit for each group. This is taken from the context that each group is made up of primarily those of the same unit.

Here are some points I want you to keep in mind when providing feedback there.

The point here is to allow the matchmaker to run with some simpler metrics; therefore the MM will not be adding up tonnage or looking at the composition of the groups. It is the groups responsibility to utilize the tonnage as they see fit. This is important because if the MM finds the perfect set of players to play against each other we do not want to have to reject that match for any reason. The goal is to make sure they fight for the best quality match. Therefore we have to be smart about our min/max tonnage settings.

Tarl is right. That was the result of some groups who didn't managed their tonnage to the max. It makes matches become a one lop-sided game. That's something matchmaker does not take in consideration when it comes to Quick Play.

Matchmaker for solo QP queue takes tiers and weight classes of mechs into account, not tonnage so both teams get the same #s of each tier, and the same #s of each weight class of mech but one could get the bottom tonnage end of each class and the other the upper end. I have seen matches where one team got five annihilators and the other got five 80 ton mechs. Technically matchmaker has done its job... both teams got five assaults. However tiers mean nothing in a game where psr is merely an XP bar that eventually fills every player remaining to tier 1.

Group QP quene functions differently as already explained. An example of that from when Kodiaks were introduced was one match where it was 12 kodiaks on team 1, and 11 kodiaks and a locust on team 2.

Faction play matchmaker just makes sure the correct factions are on each side, and that every deck falls into the same min and max tonnage limits. It doesn't in any way care if one side is a 12-man IS unit fully maxed at 265 tons each player and side B is 12 individuals who all decided to be trolls and drop minimum 160 ton decks. A
