If someone from PGI would like to chime in here and give us the goods, that would be great. My wallet awaits.

So that is your answer right there. Honestly, with the way the numbers are trending, and where MWO is its development cycle, I would be very leery of putting any more money into MWO.

Why would I pay so much when I can easily get 2-3 great games with the same amount?
E.g. I'm too lazy to do the conversion but I probably can get Battletech, Frostpunk & Elder Scrolls together?

To be fair, in a F2P game only a small number of people are ever going to pay even a little bit, thus the price paid for that small group of people does need to be higher on average than the amount paid by the player of a normal buy-2-play title (where every non-pirate player pays up the same amount).
However, I'm not defending the current pricing model (i.e. collector's packs are atrociously overpriced) and the concept of map packs are bad at any price point (thankfully F2P games tend to avoid map packs).

You mean like Fortnite?
How about LoL?

I'm pretty sure if prices went down, population goes up.

Map packs would work if it was more of a crowd funding deal instead of buying a pack. Eg. all the money towards the pack goes to its development but everyone gets to play the end result. Give the contributors some nifty cosmetics or a bonus to compensate like the tournament support thing.

Then we wont get any new maps
PGI gives us at best 2 new maps a year.... reworking old maps means no new maps.
And even if none of the maps suck, cold maps will still be voted over hot maps
which again is why we need random maps

Player base could be very divided on the issue, depending on personal taste. It is far simpler for PGI to just randomize it.
For example, I know of players who has absolutely no issue with Forest Colony, yet I hate that map with passion, and will never vote for it.
