I think it would be cool if, after a game, you can get a chance to salvage random equipment from mecha you've killed or assisted in killing. The salvaged equipment would go into a separate equipment pool that can be used for mixed tech. The caveat being that if you equip the salvaged mixed tech and go into a game and it gets destroyed either by being critted or you dieing, it gets lost forever.

This would have a side effect of changing in game behavior. Want that heavy gauss for your clan assault? Better go kill that guy who has it then. Or maybe you'd would like a big clan xl did your inner sphere assault? Go fight a clan assault and maybe you'll get one.

Wont have to worry about balance if all the mixed tech is permanently destructible. Will you risk losing your perfect mixed tech dream mech that you spent weeks putting together by actually taking it out for a spin or just admire it as it gathers dust in the mechlab. A fully kitted out mixed tech mech will be a rare sight and might actually inspire some awe. Will also be cool to be surprised on the battlefield every now and then with builds you rarely see due to rare mixed tech requirements.

Pipe dream would be if players could trade their salvaged mix tech with each other.

Because we definitely need even more cowardice in this game. People already terrified of paint scratches, now they'll be petrified of permanently losing their equipment.

just make it so the equipment is not lost" as in, the players feel nothing" and since people gain salvage already at the end of a game"and parts are replaced on the fallen mechs" i dont think any of what your saying would happen.

on that note..we need mix tech mechs and IS omni...

Nope, would take PGI 2 years to implement something like this.

Perhaps what they could do. Is add a new skill tree. One that focuses on salvage tech. So you have to unlock different types of weapons and the amount of salvage tech you can equip. So you have a limit to how much you can use. But also have to divert some of your skill points to do it.

They could also limit the salvage to FP to bolster the population.

or heres a radical idea...

they could just balance IS and clan tech

so IS dont feel like they need to salvage superior clan tech to be equal

Salvage good.

Mixtech bad ... makes everything vanilla, min-maxing worse, and balancing even less likely.
