Its called corridors. Its meant to guide players into pre-determined areas of battle.

Except there is only one corridor where everyone fights as a bunched up group with no sense or purpose other than "be alone and you're dead, so all of you go to this meta chokepoint and fight there, everything else is out of the question". There is no veriety. Every match falls down to the same place, same corridor, same chokepoint, doing same things.

Arena games are fine. They bring large audiences and with it, money. I am not sure if people want a giant mech simulator. Those that were actually good at being giant mech simulators, like Shattered Steel, never went far in the market.

I don't think MWO ever imparted a feel of piloting a giant mech.

Except MWO is an arena game with no audience or popularity. MWO didn't really go far in the market either, considering it's not extremely common to constantly run into the same players over and over again. And it has been like that since beta went public. The game has not changed, not evolved, not expanded. Every change in it is minimal. Maps in this game perfectly reflect the game itself, stagnant, unchanging, hardheaded to be as they were and so help us god we'll rather be at a minimum required than move a finger to make it a title deserving of BattleTech.
