I'm trying to figure out how to achieve the event 'stick together' challenge.
The 'lance in formation' qualification has to do with the nearness to you of your lance mates (while under fire - I believe).
My question is - If you have a lance mate (or two) who wander off and get themselves killed, do the remaining members still qualify as a lance and therefore get credit for the 'In Formation' rule?

It seems that many players are on 'self achievement' and just take off on their own vector, ignoring the rest of the team (and lance), therefore making it terrifically difficult to achieve the 100 Lance in Formation challenge.

Any insights on this situation?

Peace

Drop as a heavy or assault. There is generally less wandering owing to slower speeds.

Lights and mediums are very difficult to get formation bonuses for since lights go wherever they want, whenever they want. Assault lances stick together because they generally don't have a choice.

EASY MODE:

Assume company command.
Shuffle nearby 'mechs into your lance.
Put all the dead guys/"snipers"/stragglers in a lance of their own.

You can easily score +20 Lance in formation per match this way.

If you're assuming Company Command don't forget to drop a few markers on the mini-map and direct your team-mates. Don't be completely selfish.

To answer part of OP's question: Destroyed mechs from your lance no longer count as lance mates. So, you could shoot two of your mates in the back and stick with the remaining one throughout the match to get lots of easy 'lance in formation' ticks. :-)

they are easy to get, whats hard to get are players who are remotely interested in staying in formation. afkers also ruin it. i think you can still get it if half your lance is dead, in which case take a fast mech, wait for the leeroys to die and then go support the last one.

also avoid lights because the urge to run ahead at full throttle is strong with that class. and you will get sorted with other lights who might not care about the event at all. fast mediums are a better choice. if you can get a wolf pack going use it.

To get a 'lance in formation' everyone alive in a lance has to be within some distance from each other and someone in the lance has to deal damage.

Take something with ERLL, stick with your lance and try to at least tap any enemies you see with the lasers. Causing even a minuscule amount of damage will give you a 'lance in formation'.

Thank you all for your valuable input.
Seems logical to utilize slower mechs.
Also, can I get verification that surviving lance mates, together, still qualify for the LIF?
Peace all

I have personally witnessed this myself in action. If there is just yourself and a buddy left in your lance, it's a lot easier to rack these up.
