I can see where the OP is coming from;

I prefer teambased play. it's the one reason -aside from this being set (losely) in the battletech-universe- that I keep playing this.
so that means fw for me, and comms are _very_ important.

OTOH, QP has kinda degraded into what it is today and.. yeah. 2 years ago I had fun in QP. while chaotic, there was mostly _some_ teamplay involved, or at least tried.
nowadays it's worse. way worse. when I do one of those rare QPs, it's mostly with music on and comms to a minimum. too much hiding & trolling in QP-matches -> too many salty comments from my side which is not good for the "team", or me.

sad, but QP is just what it is - ever (d)evolving. ;)

Allowing solos into the group queue is much better than allowing groups into the solo queue. The latter is just too disruptive.

Yep, let solo fans of organized matches migrate over to GQ. Should help queue times for that mode.

It happens extremely rarely in MWO in comparison to most (well... ALL) other MP PvP based games, but I honestly don't understand why folks getting really edgy at times and start smacktalking someone else over VOIP for nothing. I've been badly damaged and even killed by teammates several times over, I never mind that, especially if person says sorry or something. It's a game, things happen, that's fun part about it. If everyone would be 100% concentrated and act like some highly trained troops, I'd die from boredom after few matches.

The best thing that helps out leaving toxicity out of MWO is the fact that main pop are adults in general, and another thing is that game has no respawn system. In several other games with respawn, once there is obviously dominating and better coordinated team, they keep humiliating the other for a whole duration of a match non-stop. That doesn't happen in MWO, well at least in QP it doesn't. When you die, you're free to join another match, which can go maybe not better but differently. And with overall pace of a game, it is quite stress free and even genuinely comic at times, behind those battle-ready giant mechs. Don't know why but f.e. running animation of Urbie, always makes me chuckle, as well as some other stuff. And funny situations in combat are happening literally one after another.

No idea where people get all that negativity from in MWO... And no, I won't be turning off VOIP no matter what, too much useful, and often hilarious stuff, to be missed if I do that.

Such wonderful VOIP gems would indeed be unfortunate if missed.

The only Time when VOIP is really helpful in my Opinion is when the enemy Team does a stealthy Move and gets in your Teams back without them realizing. Yet this is a rare Case. Most of the Time Locks (mandatory) and Map Awareness are enough to do the right Thing. Of Course some Experience is needed for that and for Beginners VOIP might be very helpful. I personally don't use VOIP as sometimes People in this Game anger me so much (passive Playstyle - standing 5 Meters from Teammate in Assault Mech that gets eaten up by Lights and not doing anything about it...) that I would call them Names with open Comms. So I avoid getting banned from the Game by avoiding VOIP. Posted Image

Back when I was in T3 I would have disagreed with the OP, but as I've moved up the lack of communication amongst the team has increased, except for when we lose, then people moan and cry. I also notice that when there are disproportionately more tagged players on a team, that team will tend to lose. Players that announce twitch streams as well, tend to be crap. A few nights ago I was in a game with a rather prolific forum poster who, upon dying, immediately began lamenting the team's poor coordination. I asked him what he thought we should have done differently, but he did not deign to reply.

In general, I have found my w/l rate to not have changed a great deal as I have risen in pilot rank, so I suppose that the quality of play couldn't have changed all that much. I also have runaway games with 6-7 kills (but never 8, ffs) about as often (not often), so my assumption is that people do get better and become more assured of their greatness as their rank rises, but game quality starts to suck because nobody is interested in talking.

Oh man, I've watched that video and the original one several times. I think that drama was more about accents than anything. ;)

Just mute the trolls and worst offenders. You're throwing the baby out with the bathwater, and you're not going to hear me warning you that a Piranha party is creeping up on your backside.

I'll hold to the opinion that anyone who isn't on voice at least to listen is essentially useless to their team. The number of times I've warned an assault/heavy about a piranha or light going to their back and they've ignored it... then they've typed about no one warning them or being abandoned. *facepalm* If you can't act in concert with your team you are a waste of space. That's not saying you have to act like a clone but you need to be able to be reactive if things go wrong or the battlefield changes.

That said ... all those people spamming the help command or just saying "I need help" aren't much better. What do you need help with and where might be useful if you actually want help? Sometimes like last night the JM6 under attack for once did tell us he was being attacked by 2 lights after I asked and we were able to reverse, harass from range to force the lights to have to split attention and then save him. Sadly most of the time they don't bother and its unlikely we'll risk the team to try to save them. You'd think people would learn but the current Tier system doesn't in any way link to skill or appetite to improve.

You might not like it but its a team game even in the solo queue and almost always the coordinated team wins.

You know the Help Key on the Command Wheel shows who and where needs help. Right?

If anyone hears loud music in the background when I queue my MIC.. its because my tolerance threshold for salt/stupidity has already been reached for the session.

While I do have VOIP enabled, I don't hesitate to mute people. There isn't a lot of abuse, but then again there really isn't a lot of valuable things being said, either.

I recently played with an extremely abrasive, but highly talented player and caller. I've since come to realize that I'd rather lose in peaceful silence than win while having to listen to some people. So perhaps I'd enjoy the game more without it...

I have a 1-strike mute rule.

I'm here to enjoy myself, and that means not listening to a**hats more than once.

If the a**hat is one of those who complain about bad teamwork only after they've died, then I'll probably also tell them where to put it before i mute them.

It's a poor substitute for vocalizing "Someone get this motherlovin stealth Commando off my leg!"

Whenever one of these threads comes up I look up the leaderboard/Jarls ranking for the No VOIP crowd... and every single one confirms my suspicions.

Mute it all you want in QP, but if you do it in FP, you're almost asking to be TK'd for not being a team player. There is nothing worse than having some dumb guy run off in the opposite direction of everyone else because he didn't hear the call, and he isn't paying attention to his minimap.

There's one particular individual who rivals zuul for abuse hurling that I have taken to using shadowplay more often (since it records the voip channel) to make it easier to provide evidence when reporting to PGI. At least two accounts used by the fellow that I've identified so far.
