How do I core an Assault Mech with three shots from a small laser and machine gun when the Assault has full armor? I too would like to do this as unable to core anything with over a dozen direct fire advanced zoom mark 4 Targeting computer heavy medium laser and skill tree to match.

Please send instructions.

Most assaults bring like 10 back armor. That's like 2 more than your average light.

Rear armor is typically pretty paltry and easily penetrated. It doesn't take a lot to peel open.

As to how you can reciprocate, the first thing to do is to not use Advanced Targeting/Zoom on targets that are within Machine Gun Range, and to probably lower your ingame mouse sensitivity so it's easier to hold a target.

To survive fish attacks, the Number One trick is to never be alone. Always be in an area with someone else, and if a fish has you by the butt, get your friendly mech to help out, either through VOIP or just walking in front of him so he can see whats happening. You'd be surprised how ineffective lights are when they have to dodge more than one mech.

It is easy if you know how. As a light you need find an enemy so unobservent and afflicted by tunnel vision that you can sneak up on them and chew away at their back armour for a good while before they even notice. As a heavier class you just need them to face tank and not torso twist while you dump a big alpha strike into their CT. So.... basically your looking for less skilled pilots. If you can catch them off by themselves all the better.

if you ask me, your better off shooting it's legs than trying to core a Assault that has full armor. If one so happens to be ready to be cored, anyone could actually bag one.

Many assaults ignore the damage indicator from behind when getting hit simultaneously from multiple directions. Many assault pilots also make the claim they have less armor than a stock locust on their rear torso. Ten and under is bad. Fifteen to twenty is better back armor.

I have a screen shot of me getting two kills doing only 190 damage with 110m spl osr. in a loosing 3-12 domination match. then again you could just be the 13th enemy mech and wait out the match until 4-11 score.

As a light pilot, running into a mech with more than 5 back armor usually means they're as good as dead anyway, even though I've been foiled by their scrubbiness momentarily.

I got 6 kills in my 3 medium pulse laser Commando. Its all about reading your hud and "kill securing". I backed 4 of them, legged one and then finished the ct off the last one. Its noted that they were all very red. I just did my job and cleaned up the battle field. Probably would of lost if I wasnt on point like I was.

anything over 10 rear armor is complete overkill. if you feel that you need more than that then you probably need to work on your situational awareness and positioning.

I have no problem with that, 10 armor means my build will one shot your back if I get an opening, about 18 armor in rear CT means it takes 2 volleys. If you can't see the value in that or wanna call me a noob or whatever, go ahead, I have no problem with oneshotting assaults due to their own poor decision making.

in my thousands of matches played, i've probably only been one shot from behind a couple dozen times. i can't even remember the last time it happened. go ahead and run more back armor if it helps you, but i think you'd be better served examining what you're doing to end up in situations that warrant it.

I sort of doubt it unless you can prenaturally tell when someone is approaching from behind. I've been back shot several times this week alone by aggressive teams swamping me as last player or when my team faded away and I was in an assault so couldn't follow as I was fighting. Also once by an dual er ppc from a mech we'd not at all seen and one from a piranha when I had a choice of kill the assault in front of me with my dual HGR and ignore the light for a moment or turn my back to the same assault and his two friends...... hey I got a kill at least... Edit: I don't have much back armour but the statement was about being backshot at all. ;)

If you’re running 10 or less back armor as a heavy or assault mech, then you deserve what you get when a PIR-1 instacrits you from behind. It’s your choice. If you feel that running no rear torso armor makes you more effective, then rage on. But you then should not be heard to complain that various lights are overpowered. If you can take a shot or two from behind, then you should have time to finish the threat in front of you and then turn and face the light when you’re done. It’s all in how you want to fight.

I’ve managed to do that-in fact, I did it last night in a brawl in Frozen City during a domination match. I was in a heavy mech that happened to have jump jets and I was running something like 12-16 in the rear torsos because it was the day after the Incubus and I thought there’d be a lot of them out...odd, didn’t see many at all, frankly. I was facetanking an EBJ and managed to nail him; in the process of that fight I had some sort of lightweight (I don’t know what) start working on me from behind. I happened to have enough rear torso armor to let that go while dealing with the greater threat, then jump-jet turned and let the little backstabbing ******* have it to the face with a 45-point alpha strike. He lived because he ran while my lasers were in mid burn and there was a corner right there, but he turned that corner right into the guns of my teammate’s Timberwolf.

The post, you are replying to was about one-shots from behind. Dual ERPPC is only able to one-shot (some) lights. To kill an assault you need to hit the same spot with this tiny 20 damage alpha 3-4 times in a row.

In case you are surrounded by multiple enemies, you're screwed rear armor or not.

He is a much better player than you, according to the well-known list, and his opinion about rear armor is more in-line with my own experience. There were a lot more situations where I'd like to have extra 10 front armor than extra 10 back armor, by far so. Rear armor is here as a one-time protective layer, which prevents mech from losing the internals from arty strike, one alpha from locust, etc. If you put 20 back armor in your mech and not ***-tanking hard every match it is a weight (and front torso durability) wasted.

Ok, some of you seem to have a pretty solid view that YOUR VIEW is the only viable one. I hate to bust it to ya, but each and everyone of us has our own preference in weapons and that also includes how we setup our Mechs. You may not like it and that's OK. But do NOT say someone else's build is stupid, idiotic or whatever words you like to use when you have a ZERO idea on their play style and combat.

Like everyone else, I have my own preferences which (SUPRISE) is different than yours. It works for me, but not for you an that's OK as I am pretty sure you are happy with your setup regardless.

It just doesn't have a lot to do with the counterpoint I made, and I called it before he did it, so it was funny to me, again if you want to save the extra few ct points and risk more oneshots its fine by me.

how so? i explained that i don't run a lot of rear armor because the risk of a one shot is effectively nonexistent with proper positioning and some attentiveness. i'm not trying to call you or anyone else a noob, i'm just giving advice.
