R tells your teammates where the enemy is. Just lost a match because people were not hitting 'R'. So the enemy rolled around our left flank. We were shooting at them but the rest of the team didn't easily identify what was happening. We had every advantage; setup and positioning, we were ahead on kills.

But the unwillingness of a couple experienced players on the flank to hit 'R' absolutely and 100% turned a win into a loss for us.

This isn't unique. People talk about how 'QP is impossible to influence the wins in, it's just random'. Not only is this statistically false and disprovable via 10 seconds of looking at the leaderboard and Jarls List and even a rudimentary understanding of how math works but in the end it just points to situations like this. I'm sure the players involved just thought 'Meh, I don't want anyone stealing my kills' or 'It's just QP and I don't need to target' or whatever bad excuse they have for, in the end, being bad.

Not targeting is bad. It makes you bad at winning the game. It puts your team at a disadvantage vs teams where people use 'R'.

Hit 'R'. It's the easiest thing you can do to get good.

Playing this weekend, I spectated on piloting and shooting so bad that it was almost worth reporting as "Assisting the Enemy." These folks aren't thinking about reasons to not press R... they're just terrible.

(Also, anyone I played with this weekend: I know I was sucking up the place about 50% of my matches... I wasn't sober. By, like, a lot. Sue me.)

With all the people sharing their horror story of "r" not sharing, here's a technical jist...

Sometimes a Teammate can be pressing R all he wants, but the information is not shared. This is not under ECM bubble. I don't know if it's a bug that appears from time to time. But I had this personally happen when I was wondering I myself locking onto an enemy for a straight minute did not receive any incoming LRM support. I was later told why I didn't lock enemy, meaning they couldn't see the target share.

I am just throwing it out there. There are a lot of hidden in this game that's too late to diagnose. It's also such random occurrences that it frankly takes a team of dedicated debugger to coordinate and find. None of those are currently available at PGI.

But, just keep in mind that sometimes, it's not because someone is not pressing "R", it's the game is literally not working as intended.

I am avoid it when piloting lights on hpg during the initial skirmish phase. Any red blips causes your team to freak out and start chasing and nascaring rather than establishing themselves in powerful positions.

When I bolt under the causeway to the right flank to pick off stragglers or lrmboats, I don't press R.
