And we have all seen this happen.

2 light mechs peel off to run into the whole enemy team (because they have no sense of timing)

the mediums and heavies blunder around trying to figure out where to go to set up a concentration of firepower but never figure out they were the only ones who remembered it's important to do so.

And then it happens. One of the two impatient light mechs from your team spots the enemy (seconds before getting killed) all nicely balled up and mobile heading straight towards your fractured team.

The match is already over.



Plus:
one dude is afk and awakes (if at all) when all others are dead...and gets even a kill
another dude is dc but has ping (surprise!)...especially Polar seems to be a map where coincidentally a lot of dcs happen ;)

I'm tired of every Skirmish match ending with someone hiding on the map, either shutdown or at the edge of the map, ready to commit suicide as soon as they're found.

It's lame, it's unsportsmanlike, and Skirmish is just dumb.

How about a new mode? After a certain point (maybe after first shots are fired) if you don't engage an enemy with-in a minute, you die.

Or, if you're the last one alive on a team, everyone on the map knows where you are.

Heck, make it so you know where all of the enemy is as well, if you're the last one on a team. So, you're the last alive, both sides know where everyone is!

Or just remove Skirmish, please.

2018 and nothing has changed to 2021 lol Is it really a Necro if the thread never got the issue addressed?

Just click assault or anything outside of Skirmish..

Skirmish just devolves into find/chase the last light parasite all over the map.

Just vote for Assault, Conquest, Domination or Incursion. In plain language, vote for a game mode with some objective (no matter how useless such objective is), so you can end the game quickly by capping or destroying that objective.

Skirmish needs engagement timer. That's it. It's 15 min timer, every team has. It counts down only when no 'Mechs on that team are engaged in combat. Every death = -1 minute.

It will prevent Special Snowflake Rambo behavior, i.e. hiding for whole match, not supporting team and then trying to prevent enemy team from taking it's deserved victory and other players on his team to free their 'Mechs, because he is so "great" guy and it's other 23 players in a match, who spoiled his great K/D stats.

Cause their teams losing

Besides salting premads in a mixed queue is fun, one of the few pleasures a solo player has
imo

Till you get on other end of it and don't pretend you don't. You are at the mercy of the matchmaker

Agree entirely. Besides, while it isn't common I've played enough games where the last light on the opposing team manages to flip things around and kill the team that "was sure to win". I've seen as much as a 1v5 swing. It's the end of the match, the mechs are all critted out to hell and have open components. Then a talented pilot in a 3 ER LL Raven manages to clean house.

I think maybe a better solution is to provide a extraction point. Say it only appears once there is a 4 mech gap in kills (12 v 8) and it's back where you spawn. So mechs can't quickly extract and are incentivized to keep fighting. But if it's hopeless and you enter the extraction point you get a small bonus on the end screen for bringing your mech back functional. Maybe make a penalty if you enter the point and then another mech on your team dies. This incentivizes trying to get your whole team out, and only extracting if the remaining players are together near the extraction point.

The point could be randomized to any of the friendly spawn points, so you nor the enemy team is "sure" where to head and the point only shows up on your minimap once that 4 kill gap exists.

All this would only be for skirmish. Otherwise there are objectives to avoid the squirrel running away.

Um no... It's the core of combat in general. Allows snipers to be snipers without worrying about "objectives". It allows anything to happen, and any type of combat to take place. Including trading, without needing to chase objectives, or defend them...

Makes the game mode more dynamic and less predictable. It would be nice to make matches less predicable more dynamic were you need to think on the fly and show true skill
