Hi guys.

I would just like to ask for an explanation, and I would greatly appreciate it if you could help me out.

Now I vaguely remember someone telling me lasers don't crit many moons ago, but it's not uncommon for me to loose weapons and heatsinks to laser damage like every other weapon should they crit.

With this in mind, how are the crit odds for lasers rolled? Is it per damage tick or is it rolled once for the entire beam?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

A laser beam is divided into many individual tics. each damage tic has a chance to roll a crit hit. Because each tic only represents a small amount of damage a tic that critical hits only does a small amount of damage to internal items.

Odds of a tic criting are the same as every other regular weapon.

The reason why a laser isn't as good at critical hits is because lots of little crits get spread proportionally between all the items in a component. On the flip side something like an AC/20 will do one big chunk of critical damage to a single item.

If a component only has 1 item in it your lasers will crit it out as well as any other weapon because it can only go to one place.
