Hi guys, just wondering for the seasoned players and veterans, what is the recommended noob friendly mech for a mech that is oriented around SRM usage?

Appreciate any input, thanks.

I was thinking of Medium mechs for Inner Sphere first, then maybe a Clan mech eventually. I am trying to research on SRM usage you see, so hope you can help if you wish.

My best srm matches have been in the Jenner Oxide although Jenners are not considered particularly good mechs anymore. You hardly ever see them in the field these days.

Good hunting,

I'd suggest a Huntsman for Clan, and for Inner Sphere a Kintaro or Bushwacker P1 if you want a ground-bound mech and a Griffin 2N for a jumping ECM mech.

Also of note, if you're looking at SRMs both the Arctic Wolf A and Hellspawn 8P can run SRMs and either is free by getting 200 loot bags in the current event

Second the Huntsman, especially a SRM/MPL Packhet w/4x SRM6 and 3 MPL. All but one of my huntsman's I kept without switching out omnipods. By running with its own Omnipods an omni-mech retains its quirks.

Look for mechs with at least 3-6 missile hardpoints and one that can twist well to spread damage. Maybe even have a shield arm or side to use to protect against damage.

Shadowhawk SHD-2D2 is pretty solid with 4 SRM4s and an LB10X

This build is going to be relatively slow, but it's pretty tanky and can dish out damage.

The shadowhawk also benefits from high torso-mounted hardpoints, so you can peek over ledges, and your arms are used 100% as shields.

Personally I favor the Hunchbacks... But two SRM-6s hardly make for an SRM carrier.

Kintaro/Griffin/Wolverine with the most missile launchers would make the best choices here for an IS medium SRM-carrier.

Yes you can do it with a Shadowhawk and yes it is also 55 tons, but... I don't have anything good to say about Shadowhawks where I can sing the praises of the other three from now til Sunday.

Also somebody's gonna have to teach me how to use an Assassin... They seem to be made of paper; worse than Cicadas in that regard.

After thinking about it and reading your input, I am thinking of either a Kintaro or Shadowhawk as my next purchase, but it is not confirm yet.

With regards to the Shadowhawk, before you buy a variant you'll want to use the new feature that allows you to drop into the training ground to try out the mech before purchasing. I'd suggest dropping in the SHD-2H(C) and/or the Gray Death (regardless of which variant you intend to purchase). The Shadowhawk champion mech fits dual AC5s and the Gray Death fits an AC10; both loadouts' ballistic weapons are seen from the cockpit and the muzzle flash of the ballistics while firing may or may not be off-putting for you.

For pure offensive potential my Bushwackers have surpassed my Shadowhawks, but the Shadowhawk can deal out some decent damage and also fit jump jets which helps with mobility versus the ground-bound Bushies.

Another note about the Shadowhawk-it's got the worse cockpit view. It's restricted from all sides. See if you like it first.

I dont like shawks, used to have a griffin back in the day before light engines, same with a kintaro. Repurchased my KTO-18 and played it exclusively this entire event, much fun to be had but a lot of matches were won by me stringing out the enemy team as they tried to head hunt me, apparently kintaro is another word for 'look at me look at me!'. Wolverine is one iv not seen mentioned much, it has less armor quirks than my KTO-18 but moves better (mobility skilled it feels a LOT like a 35 tonner) and some of the models have some nice missile cooldown quirks.

I should look what griffin I had and rebuy it, but think it had one of the problems I didnt like in my WVR-6R in that all its missiles were on one easy to target side.

You can do this. Not optimized but a general idea.

Ok, would like to know how many range skill nodes to take for SRM usage? What is the ideal range for SRM boats?
