I started playing during closed beta right around the time Yen Lo came out, back in the days of repair/rearm. I was trying to think back at which mechs were available at that time. I've come up with this list:

LIGHT:
Commando
Jenner
Raven

MEDIUM:
Cicada
Centurion
Hunchback

HEAVY:
Dragon
Catapult

ASSAULT:
Awesome
Atlas

I keep thinking I am missing a heavy and an assault in this list. The Cataphract and Stalker were released after I started playing (I think the Stalker was my first Assault). The Vindacator was the first 45 tonner- and it was post clan invasion. The 55 tonners were released with Project Pheonix and Pheonix Reinforcements.

Can someone fill in the gaps?

Battlenaster came out in Project Pheonix, which I believe was a huge package release prior to Clan Invasion. The Stalker was definitely the first 85 tonner in game.

I can't remember when the Banshee came out, it was definitely after the Highlander, which was released... I can't remember. I just remember the sale page for the Highlander Hero featuring the first warhorn. There was a 95 ton gap for a while in this game.

I forgot about the Kintaro - that might have been the first 55 tonner.

The Spider was an early light, but I think it came out right around ECM, so it was after I started playing.

Awesome!

So Yen Lo came out between the Cicada and Cataphract.

I had forgotten about the Blackjack.

Some good details here for you!

I knew about the founders mechs. After open beta, PGI used to release 1 mech at a time - MC release for a few weeks, then CBill. The Highlander had the second hero in game I believe, the Heavy Metal. That was MC for 2 weeks, then the other three were MC for a few weeks, then the CBill release. This continued until the Resistance packages with the exception for the Clans and Pheonix.

Was the Vindicator the last single mech release until the Urbanmech?

Nope. King Krab was between those two.

The days of Dragon Bowling, the Lrms that would swirl out after being launched....

Swaybacks with insane engines lol.

player by the name of Duke Nukem would type out I've got Balls of Steel! and promptly suicide.

Lights were crazy invincible due to the lag and we had to lag shoot.... ahhh those were the days.

Nice list Alcom, I specifically remember when I started playing Jagermechs were new and people often complained about it, which now just seems cute or petty.

New HSL quirk idea 2x AC20 for the old boom jager comeback.

Around the time I came in, it was this list plus the Cataphract. The Trebuchet came soon afterwards.

Anyone still remember how the Yen Lo was hailed as proof that MWO was pay to win, the K2, the Ilya Muromets and the DDC was like the meta? Then you have the massive uproar over ECM.

I remember playing with my friend and spotting an Atlas or YLW - both sightings resulted in "let's wait for someone else to attack first, then we'll jump in and help."

Repair and rearm costs were real back then. If you loaded up with expensive toys, you were lucky to pay for them with you winnings. And you had to pay for all ammo used. So you stayed away from mechs that could wreck you 1 on 1.

If you thought the ISXL was bad now, you should have seen how much it costed to repair just an XL210.
