Hello there.
Me and my friend been playing MWO for many years, Ive got like 2000 hours in already, and we always used to play the game together for loads of hours. But since a few months ago we're not able to play together anymore. Why is this? It doesn't find a game at all, even waiting more than 10 minutes. When we go solo, it finds a game in less than a minute always, even right away when we disband the group.
I would understand a hell of a long queue if you get a 11 man group, since it would be a great disanvantage if the other team is purely made of solos. But for duos or trios it shouldnt have any kind of restriction, at least I would love it to be that way.

Its explainable by simple combination math. There are only a fixed number of ways to form twelve from non-divisible groupings. Solos are not allowed in the search for twelve to fill out the team. The fact that you are a group of two has no bearing on the other group sizes in the queue with you.

There is that but also the main contributing factor is the volume of compatable group sizes in the match making pool.

Essentially if you want games to launch quickly you need to play when there are plenty of players playing.

I play groups every Saturday night NA server during peak play hours for that server and have no difficulty launching matches. With group sizes of 2-6 with 2 being the most common group size.

I've even tweeted Russ about this issue, with no response.

I usually play with my Fiancee, and we've been unable to get a match in group que before about 21:00 EU timezone. Solo Que we get near-instant matches.

This is why I am strongly recommending adding 2-man groups into Solo Que.

This game simply doesn't have the player base to support this most hours of the day..

I did find a work-arround tho.. Go into LFG and your friends list, and invite anyone who will play the same game mode. A group of 4 will not have much problems, anything less has issues finding a match.

But keep in mind that if you're in a big group, you will be hard-pressed to bring an Assault, especially one with LRMs.

Luckily, on some occasions we were able to find people who encourage us to both bring out Assault LRM boats, and even NARC for us, since they know how deadly we both are.. but it's become harder and harder to play before evenings in the EU zone..
