Anyone using Steam Controller? Care to share your experiences? I saw some posts from 2015 but wanted to see what was happening recently with the sale and all. I just bought one and am very eager to try it out. My PC is connected to my TV in the living room so using a wireless KBM on my lap is less than ideal.

Just preparing for the person that is bound to say "Why bother, it's not as accurate as KBM"

I'm tired of KBM... I'm not that old but I've been using it for 20+ years and I'm not in a situation where I want to be sitting at a computer desk for gaming anymore. For this reason the SC seems like a holy grail.

I own a Steam controller and use it for my living room projector setup.

I have not played MWO with it yet because i'm a too competitive nature to abandon good old KBM, but for controlling Windows (Steams big picture mode can be disabled/minimized) and playing turn-based KBM games like Battletech it's better than most couch-compatible alternatives.

The trackpad that emulates the mouse is precise enough to hit even tiny stuff relatively quickly with some practice (at least on a big projector screen). When playing a shooter-type game you will probably have some overshoot and precision problems compared to a real mouse, so it's not my first choice for MWO. But i think it should work way better than a regular gamepad or most cheap joysticks.

It even got a clever text-input method that's fast enough to use it for occasional text-input like google searches with some training, but it can't replace a real keyboard of cause. I would not write longer texts with it.

So in verdict i don't regret buying it, for slower-paced applications it works very well. It just needs some getting used to.

Since you already bought one, just try it out and take your time to practice using the trackpad (it may feel weird first). If you don't get the hang of it after a few days you can still return it...

I play in my living room as well.

I either put the kbm on a tall coffee table, or I use one of those breakfast in bed type trays. Depends on how lazy I'm feeling.

There are simply games made for controllers and those that aren't. You'll just have to switch between the two paradigms based on your desires.

I played MWO using the Steam Controller. Also did it using the Steam Controller on my phone using Steam Link.

Like most times one uses the Steam Controller, it works better than you'd suspect, but not as well as you'd hope. Can you play MWO with a Steam controller? Yes. Will it be a train wreck? No. Can it replace a Keyboard/Mouse? No.

I would imagine it lends itself to different loadouts. Like lurming would probably be better than sniping... but who knows... With the gyro aim assist and all the configs... you're bound to find something that works pretty well, at least that's what I'm telling myself. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
