Hello,

Haven't played for about 10 months and thinking of coming back. Would appreciate a quick rundown of the current meta, or a link to a current resource or discussion. Also, if clan laservomit is still good, thats all I really need to know; will just hop in my HBR then Posted Image

edit: forgot to specify that mostly interested in QP solo

Laservomit still works, though with the faster heat dissipation and lower cap, many people are going for a lower Alpha and higher DPS. Lurms got better, then worse again, so they're probably about the same. Double heavy Gauss is a thing, as is quad LBX10s on assaults. Piranhas and Fleas are now quite dangerous lights - Piranhas have very high DPS, Fleas are super mobile and are really good at dodging attacks, so be careful of them.

A lot of individual mechs changed slightly, too many to list.

So people sit still and peek, but also move around as fast as possible? Pretty sure "Peekaboo Nascar" is an oxymoron. Nascar is very common on some maps though, HPG, Caustic, Mining Colony and Canyon network especially.

That would be canyon network and to a lesser extent HPG - where they run around the map as quickly as possible while poping up and down along the ridge like wack-a-mole.

Not in the slightest. Nascar until they see something red, then hide and poke until other people push or the rest of the enemy team collapses on them.

Anything that vomits same weapon is meta

Anything with maxed out weapons and survivability skill tree is meta

Thanks for the replies all. If more facetime is needed due to heatcap decrease, sounds might have to look into getting some sturdier mechs than my current stable though :)

I'll do it in one. The meta shifts and changes in such constant miniscule ways that the entire concept is worthless.

Compared to this time last year it is mostly the same stuff, except:
1) Lights are in general stronger now. Piranha and Flea were released and are top tier now, some other lights got buffed a bit to stay relevant;
2) Best performing mechs were toned down slightly (what was top tier, still is);
3) Multiple underperforming mechs were buffed and some of them are very-very good now;
4) Some newly introduced mechs are among the strongest (Fafnir, Roughneck, Vapor Eagle, Flea, Piranha, Arctic Wolf, etc);
5) Greatly increased heat dissipation affected a lot of builds. More heatsinks - higher the effect. The reason is that engine sinks and external are now work the same;
6) Lasers deal less damage per shot (Clan ones mostly) but are MUCH more spammable. Some old laser builds can now fire non-stop, some that were not viable due to heat problems now are fine
7) All missiles are super-spammable, artemis got nerfed (does not grant lock-on time reduction), the area you must aim at to get and keep locks is reduced. IE: harder to aim, easier to spam;
8) Ballistics is good;
9) ECM got buffed.

TLDR: Your Hellbringer is even better now and buffed DPS of most mechs makes life quite a bit more dangerous for everyone. Learn to aim better, smaller faster ones are here in numbers and are very strong.

use weapons you are good at using.
use mechs that you are good at using.
its better to generalize than to specialize your builds. avoid anything situational.

you can do this anecdotally, but i like to use spreadsheets to find my sweet spots. this is fairly easy with mechs, and weapons much less so. though i really wish there was a way to filter out old data from mech/weapon stats. jarls is good at getting the big picture of your performance but id love to see more detail. i want to be able to go "how well did i do with weapon x in season y" only thing i can think of is to screen cap all my scores and manually compile the data, but i think that kind of thing is going too far. im sure some of the top players do this already, but i dont take this game that seriously. any spreadsheets i made were more to flex my spreadsheet foo than for any actual attempt to gain performance. the times i used this data to improve my performance in game can be counted on one hand.

PGI didn't think laser vomit was good enough, so they buffed it.

They technically "balanced it", better heat, but overall lower alpha.

This picture confused me, then I realized why... Those are IS 'mechs. Stick an Arctic Cheetah and... I dunno, a Direwolf, or something, in there instead and it'll make more immediate sense...

Cool pic though!

These IS mechs are complaining about the abundance of Clan laser-vomit in game, which they cannot field. What is there to be confused about?
