Hello and welcome mechwarriors!
If you are new and not use to this we have entered the part of year where after Mech Con PGI shuts down and does nothing for the next few months. Outside of some random events that will just be re hashed from the past expect no news on updates or any big features till March if lucky, April most likely, and if something bad happens (because it does) May.
So if you are new here is a mechwarriors guide for the next few months:
December:
Remember to grab your socks because you can usually walk away with some goodies in the stocking stuffer event, and also PLAY DECEMBER 27th for your free mech.
January:
Meh new years event, could be due to December. Patches always are very basic as in want a new mech and some limited bug fixes ... why? Because PGI takes basically Mech Con off till February.
February:
Maybe a decent patch and always a new mech pack. expect an announcement about March or April (*remember my line from earlier March if lucky, April most likely, ...).
March:
Well if we follow past history we get pot of gold event. If no new feature or massive changes this month then it will be some more news and maybe a reason or two as to why not this month.
April:
If they did happen to get a change to the game in March then this is a dead month as in nothing happens. If they did not get something out in March and they get nothing out in April it will be silence.
May:
This is the month usually PGI seems the most active with communicating to the community. Why? Well either they are talking about changes to the game from the previous month(s) and they have data to change the game more, or they just made changes to the game and they want to hype it up going into the next season of Mechwarrior Championships.
Hopefully this helps everyone not have high expectations for some time, good luck and happy hunting mechwarriors!

i guess its time to enter that mode where the only time i play mwo is when there are events that pay out mc. and even thats iffy.
need a new source of novelty bad. to break down whats effective:
events bring a few days of life into the game. though id love to see more long duration fp events.
new modes bring the game about a week or two of new life.
mech packs, at least for those that buy them, bring however long the premium time lasts (or until all the mechs are mastered, which ever comes first), for freeloaders a week or two (and 4 months late).
maps buy the game about 3 months of life. i dont see the return of classic maps being nearly as effective, though they would be a boon to custom games.
the civil war weapons were so far the most effective, with 6-12 months of new life to the game (timeline bump would have high value). this would also make me want to buy a mech pack.
fp could be a major draw if it didnt shun away the bulk of the player base, fixing that might buy a few months of life.
solaris was only good for the first season and kind of died out (in part due to the lameness of boltons).
there is really now way to improve qp, its always going to be subject to the lowest common denominator gameplay. its the minimally viable yet oddly popular mode that never changes. and changing it drastically would probably ruin it. 8v8 might help the matchmaker, and id certainly love post map vote mech selection. but these are more qol things and its hard to predict their impact.
is omnis could bring a little bit of novelty as they are introduced. though i cant imagine any more than any other mech pack. though people who are desperate for something different might actually buy them.
id love to get away from predefined modes and go with more robust custom lobbies (with a lobby browser). let players decide everything, maps, tonnage, modes, what weapons can be used, whether or not to use drop decks, game duration, etc. if you dont want to set your own lobbies, you can browse existing ones to find something you like.

Hey now, to be fair I for one hope that Jan-March of 2019 follows a similar pattern to that of 2018. In those three months Chris gave us mostly buffs to a variety of weapons as well as individual mechs. If he follows the same pattern this year I’d be happy with such “nothing”.
