you don't lose much speed

And long as you keep your distance your side torso is a small target to hit especially when the enemy is getting some dps goodness to fa face

And in a brawl that extra cannon makes a difference.

Glass Cannon, great suppressing sniper, IMO

It's stated earlier, but do remember the triple max range on the IS lbx, which is a Boon for the early game. It may not be very accurate, but being able to sandpaper assaults way before they can even scratch you (ESP on the larger open maps like frozen and grim) makes things easier for your team. It'll still allow you time to cool off before joining the main clash, where things start to open up.
That said, I only run the lbx on a few mechs that aren't suited for the closer up brawl like the jagers and roflman. I'll always go back to ol reliable ac2 for everything else (marauder, mx90, jager DD, ultra violet)
