This post won't bring any new info to frequent players, but it's rather for people like myself, who play this game very occasionally.

So today I went for a couple quick matches:
1) MC2-4 (90 tons). Grim plexus, domination. Managed to dish out whooping 200 damage before being overrun by opposing team due to all the nascaring.

2) PIR-1 (20 tons). Solaris city. The first mech I met - was opponent's Piranha (the irony), who legged me before running off. Still, that match I did 618 dmg by basically facerolling.

This is the essence of current QP metagame, it feels like.

So here we have it, the new year's first thinly veiled PIR-1 whining ...
Cudos for using the Mad Cat Mk.2 to "prove" that assaults are "terrible".

How did you manage to get Nascar'd in a Clan assault? Did you fall asleep at the start of the match?

You're surely free to interpret the OP as you like, but it's merely what it tells in the title - an observation.
One could take out, for example, an implication, that it just takes less skill to pilot.

Can also add another observation I gathered the previous 30 matches or so - it's easier (and more enjoyable) to play sniper build in an ACW, than whatever heavy mech.

I'm generally used to playing faster mechs, capable of 70-80+ kph. Was completely my fault that match, learned the hard way - I should never lag behind, when the race begins. Last time I played something going that slow was like 3 years ago, and the Nascar wasn't that bad back then.

An "observation" based on the depiction of two games. That most certainly qualifies as an observation that can be used to get to a profound ...

... take away like "lights take less skill to pilot". Now if only that "implication" would be reflected in the general statistics of mech usage in the QP queue or line up with any of the other available statistics that put lights - including your leading example - at the bottom of the pile.

So you'll have to forgive me there but I'm still seeing a thinly veiled PIR-1 whining here.

Played 2 games and suddenly an expert of the META game?

Sounds about right.

It genuinely is a sad state of affairs. If your team pulls away and Nascars you are, at best, going to lose half your 'Mech from flanking attacks as you desperately attempt to rotate to catch up to your team while avoiding the eye of the storm. That is actually why I have switched to mostly playing light 'Mechs, it is easier to reposition in them when your team ***** off.

Played 2 games today, played ~200 the previous few days. Being T2, I think I can presume I've seen enough of meta in that period.

Glad to see someone actually getting the original point I was trying to make.

Granted, I gave 2 extreme examples, but they perfectly depict another few games I had with those 2 mechs I mentioned. There are also a few changes from the period of my "hiatus", that further accentuate the favor towards lighter mechs & mobility - namely, engine desync. However, I guess you guys are done with discussing all that a long time ago...

light mechs - high risk, high reward
assault mechs - huge threat, huge attention
teamwork op

is this the essence of this thread?

Pretty much.
And some frustration from ongoing balance changes in favor of lighter mechs.

If nascar is a problem, why not say something like, i dunno "pls wait up for charlie lance"?
Also in a full on nascar situation, you don't have to catch up to your fast movers. You just don't have to be the last guy. Not difficult to do in a clan mech actually.

I don't really know what "meta" means anymore. There is such a skill disparity in the typical match these days that you see all kinds of different builds.

OP appears to be of the opinion that Nascar is a bit of a problem for assaults, I recall you mentioning recently that you had a high win rate when you attempted to prevent Nascar style tactics in your games. I guess "Played 2 games" just means the OP figured it out quickly.

Getting NASCAR'd doesn't mean you're slow, just slower than most everyone else. If you have a team full of speed demons then if you don't actively jump in the lead and start the nascar yourself, you're the tail.

The worst part about NASCAR is that it usually doesn't start until you get into a heated firefight. It's only after you're committed that everyone else seems to take off to the right. That makes it impossible for most Assaults to disengage and follow the herd.

My last 2 matches were

Piranha - Team didn't nascar, just pushed into each other and mine fell apart and lost.

Cyclops - Slow nascar, took the inside, 1315dmg 5 kills 7 assists for the win.

My 2 games disagree with your 2 games.
Everybody should pilot assaults and nascar Posted Image

Like....
Making a bunch of them bigger?
Low mobility on 30/35t ones?
Streaks?
40kph when legged?
Less lift from jump jets than mediums?
Target spotted letting you track them without sight?

lol wut

Have you not been paying attention to the lock on missile buffs, the countless small weapon nerfs over the years, the rescale, or game wide agility nerfs?

Poorest performing, lowest scoring, hardest to play class is still light mechs.

I thought the current meta given the double xp event was to bring useless builds on mechs that you want to level, such that you contribute nothing at all to a successful win for the team.

so your personal anecdote with a sample size of TWO MATCHES and TWO MECHS constitutes a valid statement on the current meta of the game?

When do you plan to publish? Posted Image

What amused me was that for a nominally 5 year old account, there are zero matches between July 2016 and October 2018.
