Stealth Armor's Huge Drawback?

If so, I don't really see much use to it, other than maybe helping you get away when you're swarmed or having LRM problems maybe.

It is still worth it, but it's a different playstyle.

Not the best tech if you run lrm, tbh. If you play on sight with lasers or ballistics it can be pretty effective since you can get in and out of positions you'd normally, without stealh, never be able to reach or get away from.
It's not a free get away card, tho. With stealth active, you're likely to overlook an enemy as much as enemy is likely to overlook you.
Beside a stealthy or sneaky gameplay and gameplan, you will need to put a lot of emphasize on situational awareness and keeping track where the enemy is (comms are super helpful, also playing purely on visuals helps a lot), be it pure sight, seismic sensor or even playing by sound.

For most of anything else, whether or not you can "target" the enemy has no effect on whether or not you can hit them.
Definitely look out your side windows more often, especially if you're using a heavy or assault with stealth armor.
(Not an ECM mech, just a side window screenshot.)

This.
And this is why you dont waste stealth armor on big mechs. Any player worth their salt is still going to shoot at your stealth atlas. I promise you will not go unnoticed.

Depending on the route you want to go, there are options to make it useful. I find that if you want to keep distance, a RAC/2 or RAC/5 is of decent help to allow damage churning. Ammo is rather limited, however, though thankfully 1 or 2 tons of ammo for the RAC has a lot of results in terms of damage numbers. Damage doesn't equate into easy kills, however.
Other users have adopted a more "I'm a light" approach to strong effectiveness.
I personally was not able to find success in that route however, as I require slower speeds for a multitude of reasons (including this great one: when you're a parent often home alone and you get up at the behest of your little one, I've found high speed mechs are prone to...high speed right out of bounds.)
