I started playing it after I finished diablo. I was bored and looking for a new game to play and came across my dad's copy of mechwarrior two. Played it, and loved it. I found some the mechwarrior (battletech) books and have beeen reading them ever since. played every game in the mechwarrior in the series including the god awful mechassault- nocustomization made the game seem kinda stale to me and the the third person effect didn't feel right at all- and now here I am waiting for the next one in a fantasic series.

I was introduced to Mechwarrior/Battletech when my brother (who is 8 years older than me) and I went to a friends ( I was 4? or so). My brother had just bought a brand new game with a red background and this huge robot on the front..they started playing it and I sat the entire time and watched. A couple months later I got given that very game as a present, and played the crap out of it. I eventually got the entire mechwarrior series, I got MW3, Pirate's Moon and MechCommander Gold in a collectors pack that came with a shirt (still got the shirt. ^_^)
Haven't left. Currently playing MechWarrior Living Legends while waiting. <3

Unfortunately, my brother hasn't touched any mech games since that first one (MW2:Mercs). ;)

I haven't had the opportunity to play anything else other than MechWarrior/MechCommander and MechAssault, as I know no-one with the tabletop or board/card games. B)

After posting this, it occurs to me that I -maybe- have posted in this topic once before...if I have..oops. most of my memory is pretty crap.

I´m sry but i have to admit that it is up to Microsoft. It was Vengeance that made my way into the BT- Universe. And from that day on i was infected with the Virus. So i followed the path reading the books, Online Wikis, playing the Computer- games. I own some old TT- Boxes too, but unluckily the BT- TT- community in Germany is almost dead. There´s only bout some hundred active players left, if it is that much. And none of them living close to my home. Blame 40k and stuff for that.

I got introduced into Battletech by Mechwarrior 2 and saw the cartoon shortly after that.

It wasn't long till I got into the TT and the lore, the awesome thing about the TT is that the MW2 construction rules were directly lifted from it.
Hence the reason why I want the TT construction rules to be present for MWO.

I found battletech the same way I found Shadowrun. By just happening to be in my local game/hobby shop the day they put it on the shelf. I think it was 2nd edtion box that caught my eye and I never looked back :D

I started back in the 80s,i can't remember which i bought first Battledroids or the novel Decision at Thunder Rift.I've been with the Universe from the early days watching it progress through the books & playing the game with friends. The worst moment for me is when they released Mechwarrior Dark Ages & then i sort of lost contact with the timeline.About a couple of years ago i looked up what was happening & was pleased to find people were still enthusiastic & they were advancing the game once again{PCs are wonderful sometimes}.
I still have all my Battletech Novels ,about 63 or so & loads of Battletech Mech models as well as all the games.More recently i got an old X BOX & i've been playing grinder solo or with my kids in the city.
To say i'm stoked about the mechwarrior online game is an understatement & i'm buying a new PC in a couple of Months so i can specifically play the new game when it's released. You can't beat playing against another human instead of a computer to test your skills?

I always like Mech Commander Gold,i'd still like to play that online.Wish they'd expand it with newer & older Mechs. It was a good enough system to play like a Wargame.

Yea, I like it alot too.
Something that people often say about mc though, is that it's so hard. I dunno, I think it's quite easy, it's just that you have to, I mean if you're a perfectionist like myself to some degree (unfortunately), restart missions many many times to get some things done right. For example (or pretty much only) making sure you can salvage certain mechs and weapons. The most important ones to me are (well all of em but...) the first uller, first hollander IIc, first mad cat, first catapult, first vulture, first thors and lokis, and then all mad cats and masakari's you come across.
It's not really difficult but it takes many tries. I've finished the game with no ejects, no casualties and almost all weapons from buildings salvaged and all enemy mech chassis, I mean like at least one of each mech eg. timby. I finished it on hard IIRC.
That's why I'm planning on doing a playthrough where I won't retry any mission (unless I fail the whole mission) and try to finish the game and see how well I do. The only instance I would load my saved state is when I'm starting the game and continuing my game...

I was introduced way back in 88 at the tender age of 10 and followed the game till the death of FASA some of my favorite mech designs were lost in the lawsuit and its never really been the same.

But I did have a blast and still have many minis most all books maps sets etc..

Ohh how I love my lance of Marauders made of lead,

My Aunt used to be an editor and would get sent new books, either to review or edit (I never knew which), so she'd have a pile of sci-fi books ready for me whenever I visited. This was mid to late 80s. The first Battletech novels were in the pile, possibly before they were released, and I ended up reading them cover to cover in rapid succession. After that it was tabletop gaming in a school club and it snowballed from there.

I was 10 or 11, and this was around '96 when AOL was big there was a game called Multiplayer Battletech: Solaris. I joined a mercenary brigade called the mafia. Fell in love with the universe! I hate to be "that guy" but the MW games; I played 1 through 5, never really had the same feel. I got back into it when the Mech warrior miniatures game came out, but I feel I have to get myself up to par on the lore. Oddly enough the closest I got to that experience lately has been playing World of Tanks. I am kind of hoping for this to be World of Tanks with mechs ;) I am really excited for this game!

i was about 3, yes very very young, and i stumbled across my big brothers video games and found one that looked interesting (MechWarrior 2). so i badgered him to let me play it. and he said that i would have to play the first game first. and thats how i got hooked. we then led up to get the 3rd game and were in love with the series. we even had one of them old joysticks to play it ;) oh, those were the days.

In the late 80's, in university... A couple friends and I picked up the RPG to try something new. Ever since then, I've been hooked. Never really played a Mech pilot until after MW2...

...but I was one hell of a Vedette pilot.

1991 My best friend introduced me to the game. I had been a stanch anti-gun game RPGer to that point. He handed me the Technical Readout for 3050 and told me to pick a battlemech. I fell in love with the look of the Mad Cat (Timberwolf) after looking through the entire book, so we began a Clan Campaign. We played that Campaign for 5 years+(still periodically revisit it) I own and read most of the novels up to highlanders gambit. Own a large Highlanders army from Wizkids Battleclick system. Played many of the PC games from Mechwarrior up through Mercenary and the Mech Commander series. Also played many times in the Battletech pods at Dave and Busters. Since their removal have not had a reason to return to D&B's

I now have approximately 2 regiments and 1 galaxy of Mech Mini's and run a game from time to time. We like starting pre-Clan invasion when we have new players. End up however gravitating to the Clans after busting the newbies Clan cherry(as it were)

Favorite Mechs enclude (But are not limited too) for the Clans : Timberwold, Viper, Shadowcat and Warhawk
favorite(But are not limited too) Inner shpere Mech's : Phoenix Hawk LAM, Firestarter, Archer, Warhammer, Marauder, and Highlander

The most fun we've had with the Game is putting experienced players on the Clan side and inexperienced (but supported by inner sphere enthusiasts) in a Double blind game. (doulbe blind for those not in the know is two sets of identical maps with two of each mech(one set for each map) putting the Innersphere side in one room and the Clan side in another room so that no out of LoS units are revealed till they are spotted) My best friend and I go back and forth between the two rooms and move the pieces as they are moved by the various sides and dictate any intercepted radio chatter for the sides. It's fun watching the Inner sphere side name the clan mech's off scans to make it possible for each other to know what the hell they were shooting at.

I remember playing Mech warrior 2 mercs in the early 90s I was like 6 or 7. After that it took off and started getting more and more mech games, got MW4, MW3, MC1 and 2. I got the mech assaults too even though it was kinda dissapointed. Even got couple of the novels. I read the Legend of the Jade Phoenix Trilogy and I just got a kindle for christmas from gf so I picked up The Warrior Trilogy and currently reading that. I remember I talked about Mech Warrior so much that my 5th grade teacher called my parents and told me I wouldn't stop talking about it, I still feel embarrsed about that to this day.
