I'm not pre-ordering anything. I will only pay for something when I see it. I'm not paying to have a private dance with a stripper I haven't seen yet.

the thing is..

they are posting about the pre orders on like daily basis..

maybe they should give some sneak peak towards other things than combat part of the game to attract people instead of just posting about the rewards?

If they offered more meaningful MW5 pre-order content, people will complain that they're reducing the quality of the base game by portioning parts of it off for preorder bonuses or DLC.

About the only thing they could add that won't piss someone off is some physical goods, but those come with their own pitfalls.

Bah.

Buy our new product! Here is an enticement to do so: Stuff for our old product which we can't promise will even exist past 2019 since we may not get a license renewal!

That later part is a very real reality otherwise why did Russ cite to it as the reason why he couldn't talk about the possible future of MWO during the mechcon Q&A? And yet offering us stuff for the game he apparently thinks may not exist in less than a year is the primary incentive to buying his new product. I'm sorry but that is a pretty weak enticement. And if by base game you mean MW5 without any enticements, I still don't follow. Enticements could be in the form of sneak previews, all the way to a unique "founder" camo. The enticements don't need to be major content.

Moreover if the new game is so super duper, then would it not make sense to entice a potential customer with aspects of that new game rather than the old one?

And "reducing the quality of the base game"...seriously? The argument is that if they encourage us to buy a new -totally different single purchase, single player game- with content fro that new game, that such encouragement is somehow going to "reduce the quality" of this here 6 year old F2P arena shooter? I'm just not seeing how that follows. And if by base game you mean MW5 without any enticements, keep in mind that such things don't need to be real content. They could give sneak previews all the way to unique "founders" camo etc. without "reducing quality".

He's refering to the MW5: Merc base game. As in "Preorder at the 80 dollar level and unlock the Zeus, Jenner, and Hunchback" means the base game wont have the Zeus, Jenner, and Hunchback, and that kind of pre-release partitioning is not looked upon fondly (And, depending on how moddable the game ends up, probably impossible o maintain).

In the first year, MWO got content every single week, though toward the end of it that changed to every 2 weeks.
In the second year, it was 2 weeks that it got updates, changes, tweaks, and little things.

Though most of these are from the first year, some examples are not 1 but 2 Betties (the first one was never openly released and had a code passed around to activate it in your user.ini and the original Commander voice also had to be activated the same way, sound bytes here,) pilot animations (limited as they were), additional weapons and equipment as the game went for months with only standard engines (and everything could mount from 100 to 400), AC/20 Dragons (removed....), etc., etc., etc. to XL engines, DHS, etc.

By the end of the second year, patches were every 2 weeks though it again began to slow down before the end of the third year.

I don't think he meant to say any of that was recent.

There was all the rage in trying to find the hidden light pole that could be knocked over once it was mentioned, and alternative versions of Forest Colony and Frozen City were more common than one might think. There was the with ship and without ship. Frozen City with street poles and without. With storm and without. A change from the once-every-second updating minimap (seen here audio warning! watch the minimap) to real time minimap. Instantly show enemies as dead to show them as targets for a second or two after the fact (yes this was intentionally done...)

I think the biggest change, both beneficial and damning to MWO, was the heat change of 2013.

First time playing with the change. Before you shut down, the override button just let you try to start quicker than the power button. Since shutdowns could happen before 100%, override stopped a shutdown before it really happened but this was supposedly a bug. Before this 80% heat caused damage to internal equipment at a rate of 1 damage per second, applied randomly.
After the change, you could push your heat. Damage was applied directly to internal structure instead.

you've got a very generous definition of "content" that doesn't even include the gameplay elements promised at the very beginning

Oh I agree. "Content" and what we wanted as content are very different things.

And I'm well aware of the promises never delivered.
Dev Blogs 0 through 5 will tell us of those promises for anyone that needs reminding.

Done trying to pre-order MW5. And on hiatus from spending money on PGI products until they switch from XSOLLA.

When spending on this game have purchased anywhere from $70 to $500 per month. Am the definition of a whale, the type of customer you should really want to keep. PGI lost me once because of XSOLLA and it cost them over $1000. This time who knows.

Have complained about XSOLLA since they were first brought on. By far they have the most antiquated and obtuse purchase system that have ever used. The icing on the cake was tonight where, after multiple attempts to use their system, they admitted the issues were on their end but the failure to have a successful transaction was my fault. Awesome customer service.

To all of you who have good luck with them congratulations. And feel free to fill the void that the loss of my business has created.

Sorry to hear that, man. I had a hard time getting my credit Card to go through, because I was in the cycle of "credit protection"/ "no really, it's me and I want to buy this" and it took a few minutes to sort out.

Losing customers always hurts.

The only thing that hit me was "We made a tiny temporary charge of less than one dollar on your account to prove its you. How much was it?"

"0.##"

"Transaction complete!"

...Where's my codes?

*Spends 15 minutes to figure out they're on the MW5 website's new "profile" of me.*
"Oh there they are."
3 minutes later, "You've spent all your 60,000 MC."
...Damn, there's still heroes left.

If it helps I used a real credit card as opposed to a debit card.
And am in the US with US currency.

I saw someone else on another thread try to use Paysafe and it wouldn't let him use whatever currency he chose.

I had a lot of issues getting Xsolla authorized as well. I had to speak to one of their representatives via chat support to get it done.

Strange I've been one of the lucky ones that didn't have xoslla issues when I was buying things. Going through a pre-paid visa card worked just fine.Guess the process changed since the Urbie came out.

I will wait. But I am cautiously optimistic. Being a single player with coop, this can bring in a lot of players that won't touch a game once they hear it has multiplayer PvP with microtransactions on it. If done right --- game execution is absolutely important --- this might be the right game at the right time just as the massive multiplayer PvP game as a service model might be facing a backlash.
