i understand speed of transfer is constant and that is why distance play a big part. that being said are you telling me if i can magically get fiber tomorrow, that it will change nothing? if you cut a gaping hole in a bag of sand to empty it, it will be no different from poking a hole???

For the most part, that is correct!
The size of your pipe, so to speak, will only have any real effect once you reach a point of congestion.
The amount of congestion that is going to have a significant affect on your transfer rate will depend on the networking technology (Ethernet/Frame relay/ X.25, etc) but at the end of the day, our international links are crap in comparison to our internal infrastructure. Getting fiber will help you only so long as you want content internal to Australia.

The lack of Au servers is what has stopped me wanting to play. Only log on for patch day and a little after until the lag starts to get to me again. It's also the only reason I haven't bought MC already.

i have a brother that works in IT, he tells me technically we have the technology to supply us with decent ping. there is no need to have servers close by, the main problem is there are restrictions on dl/ul. not sure if its government or just the providers but our upload speeds are ridiculously crap.

upload speed you say? upload effects download especially if its info from yourside. hopefully someone more tech savy can explain this in detail.

sorry, but the speed of light (or flow of electrons) disagrees with you... alot of peoples pings are not all that far off the maximum speed that electrons can physically flow from one side of the planet to the other and back again, taking in to account interconnects etc.

being in australia means your connection most likely goes the "wrong way round" the planet, as connecting aus to asia is easy, even though for this game you would be better off with a direct connection to canada, you'll have a massive detour in there somewhere connecting aus to north america

sad days then, i think we have better chance of putting boosters on this island and moving it closer then we will get servers.

Normally I'd agree with you, but I get 300ms to MWO servers and <100ms to Hawken servers...Frustration or Fun?
Anything that has the potential to take their customers is competition. Today the web site is taking almost a minute to update when I click a link, I'm not even going to bother going into a game.

Althought, having seen your edit I'm wondering if your having a similar problem.

Yeah, the site flaker for me at the same time. The game was fine though.

That is exactly what I'm telling you.

Back to the hourglass analogy: If MWO requires 5 grains of sand per interaction between top globe and bottom globe for a fluid conection, but your neck allows only 3 grains at a time, then we have problems. However, the Australian hourglass, while not having quite as large of a neck as, say, a French hourglass, still allows 20 grains at a time to fall through. You can drop more grains at a time than MWO needs, thus there is no backlog. Upgrading to an hourglass that allows 100 grains to fall through won't help your MWO connection, as you still have an excess of usable grains and the grains still fall at the same speed and have the same distance to travel.

The only reason I haven't asked for a refund is that the dev's have teased the idea of having an Aussie server. I hope that is soon! Especially since Hawken and Plnetside 2 have aussie servers up. I wish I could have stopped my mates but they have lost faith in this game due to the lag and got there refunds.

Forget about Aussie servers, these devs tease and promise alot of things, but look at the pile of stuff they have to fix yet do nothing.. They can't even fix the game, let alone add growth components. MWO has a dev team with a now proven track record of incompetence.. your mates were on the ball and saw the writing on the wall earlier.

Congratulations Ping in the good old USA is a fantastic 1500-2000 as of this fantastic patch we just had. Seriously guys If PGI ever gets its net code fixed you will probably see a serious reduction in your ping. It getting worse here so It must be horrible down under.

Has there lately been any news regarding aussie servers?
I have been absent for a while because I am waiting for them and don't have time to read through the entire forum, if anyone can give me a quick answer on this I would greatly appreciate it.

Dedicated AUS servers means less $$$ for PG hence it ain't gonna happen. The game isn't big enough globally let alone here in AUS where we get screwed over with everything particularly computer software to warrant an AUS server. State rewind helps but it doesn't really cut the mustard. Still cant hit with ballistics and a 1-2 second delay matters heaps especially with faster mechs.

Hoping Im proved wrong in the near future but I doubt MWO will ever have a AUS server and if there was it will be well after full release and Solaris expansion which Im not expecting till mid 2014 or later :P

State rewind phase 2

The first phase only affects lasers / MG / flamers. When the next phase rolls out all you have to worry about is shooting what is on your screen and compensating for the firing delay rather than for the delay AND lag. The firing delay is an intentional mechanic and is global to all players.
