i just read that in the match making, lone wolf players will be drafted in to fill up any spaces. Is there friendly fire enabled?

I think friendly fire should be enabled.

i agree with friendly fire should be enabled allways...no normal ammo knows the diffrence between friendlies and bad guys, i know there is/should be some sort of IFF system that will atleast tell you whos who..but if someone is dumb enough to stumble into the path of your 80 LRMs...well to bad.

To actually answer the question. . . We dont know yet. Having said that, i believe, that it will be a aspect of the game. None would wory about hitting friendlys in a furball if there wasnt friendly fire. and LRMs would be pumped into a match by every one. This would make one hesetant to fire into the middle of a close up slug fest.

Everybody hates griefers, but I doubt the Devs would spend much (if any) time coding a point or other based system to track them. I could also see at least a table of "enemy kills v. friendly kills" that might help the community ID griefers.

I would expect that lone wolfs would have to be "approved" by a lobby XO to join a lobby or a drop, and I would expect that a lobby exec would have the ability to kick a griefer--permanently (to prevent even lobby griefers, those who continuously try to join a lobby....)

Word gets out quick amongst the community about who is legit or not. I think it's more of a community action issue.

Griefers just don't last long in any well-run community (which I think this will be) and they usually move on to the next game soon enough.

It was a small but negligible issue in TKZ back in the day, not so much in GC, I don't see why it would be much of an issue in MWO.

Agreed. Keeps things a little more realistic to actual combat in the gameplay as well.
But if you are worried about anyone holding a grudge against you, should you accidentally shoot off a ton of their armour or they mistakenly walk into a salvo of your ballistics, then maybe they are not the first person you should let join your team on the field of battle in the first place.

Agreed! As part of the cry for a simulator, make friendly fire a permanent aspect of the game! That also encourages tactics and strategy.

First off..friendly fire..isn't

I've been the victim of it in all of the MW titles, usually by very good friends who just couldn't keep their finger off the trigger..and more often then not, it was due to THEM bringing their line of fire to ME, not me moving into their line of fire. Situational awareness isn't a real common thing for players of online games I've noticed over the past decade plus of playing team based online games with FF enabled.

Been knifed, shot, grenaded, had artillary dropped on me, bombed, run over by any and all types of vehicles, including aircraft RUNNING ME OVER while I was laying on the ground! And I've been guilty of it myself..it's what happens in video games..and in real life as well, a sad but real thing in combat, no amount of training can stop it from happening occasionally.

Now, if someone is purposely doing it..and that WILL happen with some Lone Wolves..and some organized teams I might add!, then we, as a community, can take steps to keep those idiots from our combats. First step..report them. Second step..let the admins(or whomever is tasked with keeping the game running smoothly) deal with them. Third step..well..there isn't one, WE have no rights to do anything to prevent this type of abuse by another player, that's up to the folks running the show to deal with, end of discussion.

To be honest if your in a furball you won't know if it's friendly fire half the time.It happens. Kristov's post dealt with it perfectly IMHO.

Well, accidental friendly fire can be dealt with the way lancemates in MW4 deal with it - nagging. Griefing friendly fire can be dealt with in a really fun way, if the majority of the players on both sides know each other. If everybody teams up and goes griefer-hunting, I kind of doubt they'll stick around.

Apart from that, just a little stat-tracker saying how many friendly kills you've got. That ought to clue everyone in.

Now, tmpwatch is a Linux command that scans local directories for information that has not been accessed for a long period of time upon transitioning from one directory to the next... this could be a coincidence with nubnub's activity and the "friendships" between the developers and other profiles that exhibited very little if any forum activity. I don't mean nubnub is liking them, I mean they are seeking out and friending nubnub. these are zero-activity profiles logging in for the first time in 6+ months, no allegiance icons, no posts, they just friend nubnub and log out. How do I know this? I have been tracking them... I frequently visit nubnub's profile and then visit all of his most recent friends - The majority of the time these profiles have between 2->20 profile views and between 0->3 forums posts... but occassionally I find a profile with ZERO profile views! You have to view someone's profile in order to add them as a friend, and the 'profile views" counter does not count your current viewing session as a view, that means nubnub DID NOT go to them to add them as a friend or nubnub's act of viewing their profile would have been logged in the system; they went to nubnub's profile and added him!













These profiles have not been visited by nubnub, yet he managed to befriend them. They sought him out!



It is now known that nubnub is a member of TempWatch, a secret tracking commission approved by ComStar!

Of course it should be turned on. Turning friendly fire off is an arcade shooter thing and that has no place in a BT immersive action sim. Griefers can be booted or banned.

Im pretty sure the devs will be tracking damage and kills. Whether they have mechanisms for tracking griefers this way is uncertain. My guess is that they will respond to complaints and warn violators. X number of warnings resulting in accounts being locked

Do enough damage to friendlies and your 'Mech is swarmed by chickens (or cuccos). Skip to 0:30 or so for example.



Of course I guess you could have friendly aerospace bombers destroy your 'mech for repeated attempts, or some stat algorithm that will prevent people who spam friendly fire from joining matches - temp bans or not allowed into the "honorable" matchmaking queue or whatever.

point about griefers is relavent, one simple way to deal with it is the lance commander being able to designate someone who starts as friendly as hostile via a IFF system, and maybe have it as GM sanctionable offense for something like this.
Tbt this is kinda a mixed kettle of fish, because spys are used by the houses etc to do things like tip the balance in a battle so it can also be argued it's a valid tactic game mechanic wise one possible way to deal with it and allow it is have a flag system ingame, where players could be assigned missions to infiltrate x house/merc unit etc which would require them to be flagged, obliously after they do something like that then they've pritty much just outted themself and would then be designated as hostile towards the house/mercs they just did that to.

this would be something for the devs to take a long look at before deciding on it, some players are going to love it others hate and despise it, I think we as a community need to as a whole voice an opinion one way or the other so the devs have a feel for wether it should be allowed/considered a valid tactic or outright banned.

Friendly fire is a must. It is part of why you chose small area damage weapons over big area damage weapons as well as making the whole game interesting.
In many combat games ala battlefield oder call of duty you will find the option for the players to vote somebody off. The trouble with that is that you will get vote grievers then who will vote anybody who kills them. Still i am against automatic kick just by DMG done to friends. If i play a LRM heavy catapult and two of my Lance in light mecs decide just to go amok and run between me and my target ... i don't want to see a kick above my many sorry i will write xD
