Well good to know that little number beside my heat bar was a figment of my imagination all this time!

You didn't read the rest.

The percentage is a percentage, changing with each second that passes. If you cool 2 heat per second, then 1x "8" (lets say 8 heat for example) -3 (1.5 seconds of cooling) = 5.

2x8 or 16 - 3 = 13.
8+8 does not equal 13.
3x8 -3 = 21.
8+8+8 does not equal 21.
And yet... you're not even looking at the heat generated versus cooled, you're looking at percentage.
You're using the logic of "if one gun = 2.5% heat, then 3 should equal 7.5% heat."
But "5 + 5 + 5 = 15 out of 50 = 30%.
And that's not how it works either.
It works as:
5 = 2.5%
13 = 26%
21 = 42%...

Understanding it yet?

And this is before we get into the magic of ghost heat...

So using the PERCENTAGE to gauge the heat from 1 gun to 2 guns to 3 guns... is like using "1 Mississippi" to count distance from point A to point B... You leave yourself a fuckload of math to do to figure out the distance.

Now if you gave us HOW MANY heatsinks you have, and what map you're on (as this also affects the results), and then try it with mech A) with the quirk and Mech B ) without the quirk with the same heatsinks on the same map with the same timing (rigged to a macro), then you'd have an accurate comparison of the heat between them... either through the math, OR through the comparison of percentages. They would need identical skill trees, too.

Considering the average accuracy of your posts I try not to.

You learn fast.

Most of them are inaccurate and made up claims anyway. It has been proven many, many times now.

Let's not forget that movement also generates heat - your resulting heat level will be different firing from a static positon vs firing when going full speed.
