Heya, mechwarriors.

Been awhile...a year in fact...

I've...been kicking around the idea of returning...I admit, I miss dropping...but since the Faction Warfare map has been reset several times and the landscape and mechs I used to use are apparently radically different (big shock about Clan mech changes), I feel like I currently lack purpose...

I used to play to win...I don't know how to play to just have fun (unless I did a 12-man Crabfest rush!).

Is it "worth it" for me to return? Will I find a purpose or point? What's the current state of affairs with the game, and the units?

Would you like to buy a mech pack?

Putting 90% of the torso armor in the back is meta now.
We get another Marauder because only having 2 iterations was just not good enough for us.
Nascar is GOOD.

Ya, I am in the same boat. Jumped back in a few days ago after nearly 1.5 year hiatus. Been on CW again and trying to figure out the new meta. All my team speaks don't work anymore and it has been difficult to get with an organized group. I really hope they hurry in some of the CW changes being talked about.

About as much purpose as you'll find in any other shooter. If a shooter isn't your thing try an RPG. In my opinion this is the best shooter to play.

Well, when I say 'purpose,' I mean to say that I used to play to win. The Faction Warfare map mattered to me...until it was reset again and again and again.

Now, I feel like I don't really know why I'm here...

I need to learn how to play to 'have fun,'...

Buy a piranha, put yourself in some do or die situation, rinse and repeat. It's quite fun lol.

If you are going CW, it's still have more cohesion than QP and you can find some enjoyable people to play with for the win.

i used to play pokemechs but skill trees put an end to that. grind is just crappy now. i think my current thing is farming heros. every time there is an mc rewarding event i come back and play. stack that mc for hero sales. though i do come back for the cbill mech release of the month, pick one and level it. but events are the main draw at this point. also going to work on finishing the merc skill tree for that massive wad of cbills and mc.

I'm in a similar position. I was addicted to this game for years. Faction Warfare flopping was a disaster, then the collapse of Group Que was the last nail in the coffin. I always played to win and took things too seriously. I tried to just drop and have fun, but without a solid team, or even people to reliably group up with and find a match, I lost interest. You really just have to enjoy the unique combat and going solo in this game.

It's not really "competitive", but I replaced this game with Planetside 2 and it offered all the tight teamwork that used to exist in MWO. That game has had some serious server issues the past few months, which is why I've been playing more MWO lately. I have to say that if you can't lightwn up and enjoy the NASCAR potato lottery for what it is, there's no reason to get back in to this game.

My experience with Planetside was, Vehicle hits me, splat!, repop, Vehicle hits me, splat!, repop... You get the picture :)

Well, that's combined arms. This have actually shifted heavily towards infantry in the past year.

I just emerged from a long break myself and I have been having alot of fun. Honestly, yep it is the same old game even with the changes but then again I have always said the core game play was relatively fun. The problem is and always has been that the game is pretty stagnant. PGI is too focused on MW5 and pretty much refuses to add any content to MWO aside from mech pack so after a month or so of doing the same thing I was doing back before my 6 month break, it starts getting old again.

This game REALLY, REALLY, REALLY needs to have like 6 new maps a year added just to keep things fresh. Hell just rotating in some of the old versions of the existing maps would change it up. Hell just slicing off parts of some of the unique FW maps to make new QP maps would make a difference. Hell random spawn points would make a difference. Hell damn near any new content aside from a Mech Pack would make a difference hehe.

So welcome back to a really fun game, that in a short amount of time will turn really boring....AGAIN...because PGI adds nothing new but mech packs. <sigh>.

If youre thinking about playing you better do it now. In another year and half the game will be mostly dead.

as soon as MW5 comes out, it will be a desert. For about 3 days when all the people have already won MW5 for lack of content.

You would have scored a bunch of free christmas goodies the 27th Dec including 2 hero mechs for Feb and March . Also you would have had plenty time to grind some stocking stuffers loot .

Its less "worth it" for you to return now . Posted Image
