If they had launched it earlier in the game's development. I think despite it being entirely too niche and repetitive there would have at least been enough people to keep it active. At this late stage people don't want more niche competitive modes. They would have been better off improving faction play.

Build for brawl, problem solved.

So you only carry 1 ton of ammo in your brawlers? You have to build special for solaris= low ammo, no arty strikes, etc. So no, problem not solved, this is one of the biggest reasons I don't play solaris- don't want to rebuild my favorite mechs- and it is boring as crap after about 4-5 matches, exciting action for 30 seconds-but boring gameplay wise..

Who said you had to rebuild ? Buy some more of your favorite mechs and make them Solaris ponies.

Not even in Solaris ones. Yes, you "only" have to take out one opponent. You also have to do so without teammates who'd soften up their armor. Both of these factors balance out with each other.

Not a waste at all. It is in fact the most labor efficient method of dealing with large pinpoint alphas that have been part of first person MechWarrior for over twenty-five years. The only ways of attacking pinpoint is either a cone of fire or random hit tables. Notice that no company in the history of first person BattleTech has gone this route. Do you think that is coincidence?

With a clean slate they could have chosen any fire mechanic they wanted to for MW5 and did not choose the above. I assume you are one of two opinions, either alphas should be unlimited or there should be spread. Please declare where you stand.

Halve all damage and better games, longer and more tactical

Less tactical, because you have less options that work.

You halve damage, missiles and ballistics become redundant because they don't carry enough ammo to make a difference.
You halve damage, pin point lasers will be king.
You halve damage, there will be more 12-0 snowballs because better players are better because they are more consistent and lower ttl plays up consistency.

Are you sure you want that?

Damage is already halved. (Double armor values.)
Real issue is PINPOINT CONVERGENCE.

Solaris was a complete waste of time and resources. After a week it was a ghost town and remains and ghost town that will be yet another massive failure for this company and its design decisions. Even events can't bring it back.

Solaris isn't totally un-salvageable, but I don't picture PGI making even the most minor of adjustments that would bring the mode back to play. A) Eliminate all divisions. There should be one bucket. You don't even have enough players right now to put one person in each bucket, let alone two so they can fight one another. 7 divisions was the dumbest thing ever. Just let the few people that do want to play the mode be able to get a game with ease. Not playing division roulette. B) Increase armor value on the legs of mechs above the rest. Having spuds shoot legs all day is just dumb and boring. The only time Solaris is remotely entertaining is when there's an agreement between players not to shoot legs. Otherwise it's dumb as hell, because you know how it's going to turn out. C) Increase the rewards to make it worth people's time. Solaris is more loading time than any other mode of play because the matches are so short. That's a lot of lost playing time that could be making C-bills and XP in other modes. You have to offset that somehow.

This is exactly what I predicted because im so übersmart.

When Solaris was first introduced I said, that it is too one dimensional. Tiny brawling maps. Thats all it is. And that is just way more fun in QP. Because there you can use speed, terrain, distance, sniping, flanking all of that.

Solaris bored me after like 30 matches.

Never went back.

Same goes for faction play.

They should have concentrated on making it a fun experience.

But getting owned with a team that is down ten mechs after ten seconds for 30 minutes......I dont think that one single human being would ever consider that fun.

Played like 20 cw matches and got bored.

Its prolly that or something else that turned faction play into something that almost nobody plays.

All of that made me doubt that any missions pgi could come up with in mw5 would be fun and exciting. We basically play death match most of the time because all other attempts to provide more complex game modes kinda failed miserably

Escort mode, a real escort mode, to cover a real player....that would have been exciting. id love to cover somebody with my life and mech and protect them. Try to push through with them and all of that. But not even a dead stone enjoys covering thise beyond dumb bot that does the weirdest brainless maneuvers. Why would anybody sacrifice for a bot that is beyond dumb and runs into the middle of open terrain, instead of staying with team. Not even the demons in hell have any idea, why they chose a bot.

I have no idea who came up with that idea, but that was an abysmal choice. And that is the reason why all of the ressources that weent into escort were a major waste of money and time. Nobody ever plays escort. You play it maybe once every 2 weeks. Cant even remember. And so many ppl asked for a an escort mode. Would have been a blast, that would have truely been excieting. Instead, you get a mode that is so boring and dull that nobody wants it.

Solaris is no exception.

Was prolly also a financial problem. Maybe thats why Solaris maps are so onedimensional. Tiny brawling maps to brawl with one single mech. Not even worth the time invested to find a match. I can have that in much higher quantitiy in QP.

Love my solaris warhorn though.

Thats awesome. Love my solaris warhorn.

How the hell is shooting legs making people "spuds"?
You can mount more armor there than arms.
Legs move. Slightly harder to hit.
If you mount ammo there and strip armor off. IT'S NO WONDER you roll snake eyes!
