well it look that it was a bad idea... omg, so bad with it.

Achieving good result with an Hunchback with the same payload (ac20 and 2 med) but with this Centurion (my first) it's a pain.

Tried other builds like twin rac2 twin med, uac20 with twin med.... with humiliating result.

Someone doing good with it ? I put a light engine in it... XL still good with the twin H-Gauss roaming around?

Centurion and YLW hasnt aged all that well, it can still do pretty good but avoid XL(it cant really get fast enough to overcome its size to comfortably allow for a XL) at all costs and get torso twist speed nodes asap so you can more quickly use your 'shield' left side and protect your main guns on the right.

I would avoid RAC's on it though, YLW excels at the twist and shoot - maintaining a stream of rac on someone exposes your right arm to equally large amounts of return fire. Not really a cent pilot but I do pilot mediums as my main mechs, so you could try some stuff iv used on my other mediums such as YEN-LO-WANG not sure about the ammo though, 3 tons is kinda light for my taste but its a VERY snug build in terms of slots best I can imagine doing is shaving another half a ton of armor for a half a ton of ammo.

I think the counter-intuitive aspect of the Centurion is that unless you get the drop on an enemy and can fire without them returning fire into your CT you want to 'catch' their alpha strike with your shield arm before firing your own weapons. If you're getting CT cored and your left arm is still attached you want to be using your shield arm more; it's an excellent damage soak.

Something simple like this build should be fine, it's all about using the shield arm then replying with the AC20 after the enemy has unloaded his alpha into your arm.

With the quirks the AC20 is firing every 3.2 seconds and the MPLs every 3.12 seconds, so they're very close. Treat it like a counterpunching boxer; let them take their shot into your arm, then turn and take your shot into their torso. You'll also want the survival tree skill nodes because the AC20 and MPL are close range brawling weapons.

Yeah will try a bit more... I have so many mecha, it was a fun looking one so wanted to try it.

Will skill it full to see if he become better with time but it's a still born to me that need skills to perform. Not good out of the box. Would have been better to take another Hero with my events mc...

One of the big problem is the total lack of team cohesion for a while right now and the incredible amount of assault in drop in the past two week, got a lot of drop with more than 8 Assaults and heavies. A relatively slow, short range medium in the mix just crack open.

When I'm dropping in a brawling medium and see that it's a heavy drop I'll try to go right to Charlie Lance and stay with them - I help them with enemy light mechs, and during a push they help me stay alive by drawing fire.

When you have a medium mech that can go around 85kph you want to run to where the battle will be to be ready for when the fight starts, but the better move would be to run to your assault lance and escort them to the battle, using your speed to maneuver around them so you can get into a firing position near them (without blocking them or stepping in their line of fire), quickly reposition or engage flanking enemies when necessary, and support them as the assaults make their push.

Centurions are the quintessential sword and board build mechs. Meaning they excel at snapshot PPFLD weapons that allow you to quickly shoot and twist to present your shield arm to the enemy.

It doesn't do facetime/sustain builds well.

IMO, the YLW has been outclassed the moment the AH variant was released.

The ability to throw out 45 pts of damage and immediately twist and fend off most damage is what the Centurion is built for.

The fact that PGI put armor quirks on the weapon arm instead of the shield arm shows how little they understand their own game.

Side note, the A variant is one of the best training mechs IMO for torso twisting as it gives you 2 shield arms

But this has since been outclassed by the SHD-2K, which also has 2 shield arms, but with more tonnage and JJ capability, and 1 more E hardpoint

I played TT since '86. I suck at MWO because I'm always drunk, but you can look at my stats on her. She shines when you run her totally as a random element. I love Centurions so much my lifelong best friend bought the Yen Lo for me for Christmas. Ruccus is right, "technically". But "technically" Mike Phelps could coach me to swim faster. That chassis is awesome for troll builds too. I ran a dual AC2 build and all I used her for was to create cockpit shake.

He is right. She is a beautiful angel of Death in a firing line. But we are playing to have fun, and never do the math again, ever.

Centurion is terrible from my experience, extremely easy to core its CT out from the front, not XL safe by a longshot, and lousy hardpoint choices which limit its builds to a select few so-so ones. That and its agility isnt anywhere near enough to use the shield arm consistently like the old days. Its not the same as the yenlo, but i have a NCIX free i got ages ago and its the ONLY mech that i own that id sell in a heartbeat if it was possible to do so (its locked).

So yeah, nothing unexpected, its a mech that was once fairly solid, purely because there was nothing that could do what it could that well, but now its been obsoleted by like every other IS medium mech.

Ghili is a completely different animal anyways (not a particularly good one outside of stealth sniping at that) but the real power creep came in the form of the Bushwacker, which has supplanted the entire centurion line. P2 specifically overshadows the YLW, though the HR can do it too.

Granted, it no longer has the (at the time) 10% damage resistance to the left torso due to the missile doors, most meta builds kept it open anyway for the triple SRM firepower. The real issue is probably related to someone using Light Engines. In the case of the Wang I highly recommend either you go full XL for the fastest speed possible (with speed tweak), or you go STD engine and focus instead on either speed with MPL an AC and an MG (with the MG in the same group as the MPL to boost damage)/ or on LPL and MGs and the biggest engine you can stuff into it. That'd make it into a good skirmisher.

Pack it with a big gun and you'd have a good ambusher/escort mech (Pulse lasers in the CT for the lights/quick blows and a big gun for everything the big guy next to you is shooting at).

But beyond that...please for the love of god don't tell me you're sniping with this thing. I kid you not its almost as wide as an Awesome...

The biggest thing to help you when using a Centurion is this -- Don't move in a straight line. Advance on enemies diagonally, that way shots have a chance of hitting any of your torsos especially as projectiles. Laser weapons will kinda spread as the enemy makes adjustments to aim.

Now, if only the Centurion (and other shield armed mechs) had a button to bring the shield forward to cover part of the torso....
