Let's face it, there's pros and cons to both sides and with the number of maps in rotation, there's little chance to get actual diversity going no matter how the map is chosen.
OP here. Covered that bit in my original post. Go read it, with understanding. Read it twice, or trice.

If any Map and Mode selection should have been Premium Time Advantages - then it would at least have a real comercial reason.
Hell to the fk no! No mechanic should ever be tied to paying for anything! Jesus... luckily PGI is as good and fair to players as it is bad at making maps and capitalizing on MWO's potential so they would never stoop so low to add pay-to-do elements. Thank Sterling for PGI's moral and ethical approach to monetization.

Map voting is not bad.
The fact that there's a poor, limited selection to choose from is bad.
The game needs at least 20 new maps to not feel repetitive. And they need to be designed better than Solaris city.
But but... I like Solaris City :'( Aside from its poor optimization and not so pretty looks, it's one of the best maps with lots of flanking potential and anti-nascar design.
For the rest of your comment, my original post covers it and we agree on that.

I wish they'd just change how it calculates a winner for map voting. Right now, it's a very direct "most votes win" system across four maps. I'd rather they reduce the options to three and, most critically, change the votes to a, for lack of a better term, "weighted dice" system.
So, let's say 50% of the people vote on one map, 30% vote on another, and 20% vote on the third. Use these odds when rolling an electronic dice, of sorts. There's a 50% chance of the first map getting selected, 30% chance of the second, and 20% chance of the third. It isn't an absolute majority rules, as that just leads to the same handful of maps constantly being played on. Even the least voted for map can win, but is statistically unlikely to relative to the others. However, that uncertainty means that more of the maps can be played on more often.
This ain't too bad. Still leans toward majority vote but takes a bit of control out of it.
