Actually Bud, I often by Mech Packs specifically for that reason, simply because I never seem to have enough C-bills for what I need or want to buy. Sure I still need to outfit those mechs but I figure that eventually I will want to buy the mechs in the pack anyway, and by spending a bit of cash, I can avoid having to grind the 20-45 million C-bills it would cost me to buy the mech for C-bills when it finally comes out. Also the plain truth is that I don't have the time to play enough to ever hope of killing up with the C-bills needed to buy 2-4 variants of each new mech as they come out each month so if I don't supplement my lack on time to grind with real cash, I don't get access to these mechs for a long, long time.
Now that is not to say that is my only motivation because it isn't. I genuinely do like to get early access to the mechs and the early adopters awards have saved me a ton of MC buying colors, camos and decals over the years so there is that to. However I can't discount the C-bill savings part of the equation and honestly have to say there are times when I probably wouldn't have purchased a mech pack if my C-bill balance had been higher.
This just doesn’t follow to me. I mean do you get a few million c-bills and/or a bunch of GXP when you buy a mech pack these days? If so, then I guess I can see how buying with real $ avoids or reduces the grind, but otherwise I just don’t. These days a single variant is all you need to master, and even the best mechs are less than $20 mil and most are far less. 1 Mech plus another 10mill to get it operational then skill it vs buying 3 mechs for $20 bucks, spending 30 million to get them operational, then skilling each. To me that is an incentive to NOT spend real money. Even for a fairly clueless player like me...just wait for the meta variant, or the fun variant (or whatever you are looking for) to be identified by the community and buy the 1-2 variants with c-bills. That’s still a c-bill cost savings (and reduced so grind) compared to the real money purchase of a mech pack.
EDIT: Just speaking from my own experience here, but since I stopped spending real $ on this game (Thanks Chris!) I have never been more c-bill rich. Since I stopped I have acquired maybe another 30 mechs, including a half dozen heroes thanks to all the free MC over the last year and seemingly non-stop sales.
