Another factor to consider is the impact this would have on auto-aim weaponry. The downside of being unable to manually target the hitbox you want to hit would be gone entirely.

1. That sounds like War Robots.
2. Not only is this already taken up by War Robots, it also works very well.
3. It won't necessarily solve machine gun builds.
4. Yes it would solve geometry problems.
5. And yes the ability to manually hit a particular area of a mech would be gone entirely using a semi-auto aim mechanism. While auto aiming sounds OP, this mechanism can be gamed against its favor, like for example corner shooting.
6, While in paper it sounds like a universal health pool can affect game play depth, it only makes up just a tiny part of it. Game depth has more to do with map or level design, the game mode, the careful and timed use of various special abilities and attributes each mech has in synergy with the team and the way it matches with the map and the match. War Robots doesn't NASCAR nor murderball, those things don't work in that game as winning strategies.
7. But of course, while it all works, and wonderfully well on War Robots, it just isn't Mechwarrior and in Mechwarrior we expect modular segmented damage as an important keystone to the franchise identity. Every mech game or franchise has their own mechanical and property identity. Just like we expect a banana to taste like a banana, an apple to taste like an apple, and an orange to taste like an orange. Some properties are both good and bad, but they are an essential part of the game's character and flavor no less, and something just has to be accepted as part of the landscape.

For Headshots there is "torso cockpit" technology nice to be implemented as it is frees up a lot
of slots in the head to mount bigger energy weapons or AC5 ballistic... details on Sarna http://www.sarna.net...i/Torso_Cockpit

And to help the grind they could make golden coins jump out of knocked over street lamps, trees and shrubbery (also helps to detect those sneaky light mechs).

Ha! That this isn’t far off from how Russ originally pitched adding goodie crates to the game. Hard to write good parody given the source material around here.

Sigh....... no. In fact, to make the game better, they need to un-nerf everything from the new skill tree forward and return long range precision to the mech's hit box mechanics and weapons.
There are enough silly arcade FPS games.

Second its just a nonsense ridiculous idea. It takes any skill out of the game trying to share armor on your mech and torso twisting. It also means your either alive or dead, that it is. There would be no legged mechs, tearing off arms, or advantage to getting behind besides the couple seconds for them to turn. It would pretty much kill the little that is left.

No aiming, no thinking required. Just push the button to shoot the bad mech man.

They could make mechs a single hitbox but then have damage assigned to random locations. So your mech would get hit as a single hitbox then weighted RNG would determine what location to assign the damage. So you wouldnt lose the depth of having multiple hit locations.
Being able to aim for specific locations is responsible for a lot of the balance problems this game has.
And for people who still want to manually aim they could enable the higher level Targeting Computers to allow manually aiming. Which is what targeting computers are supposed to do anyway.
