I would love to get poke-fests instead of the constant potato rotato tornado.

I would love to get NASCARS, Poke fests, or Brawls instead of Campsites where 8+ teammates score less than 200 damage.

Oh, that will happen even in rotato.

I'm just tired of getting into what should be good positions and having them turn into bad positions simply because the team kept going for no good reason other than because they didn't look at the minimap.

It's even worse when the enemy team is so bad that the moronic push succeeds.

Couple weeks ago i started asking random players how much they looked at their MinMaps.

Most said they didnt have time to look at it.

That explains a lot in this 'thinking man's shooter'.

I can only use that phrase sarcastically at this point. Most games in my LRM-80 Snova, I pretty much hold W + LMB while circling whatever terrain feature happens to be in the middle of the map. Just thinking so hard the entire time.

Some good points here worthy of discussion!

MWO problem #1: Everything's a Brawl

Yep, in the end almost everything that matters boils down to which team can kill off the other team first. Almost everything, cuz sometimes wins can be had even after your entire team is dead, eg Conquest.

MWO problem #2:It's not you, it's the Maps, baby...

Some maps certainly encourage a certain behaviour. Maps that are mostly symmetric with a central feature.

MWO Problem #3: Mech specializations.

I'd say alot of mechs are type-cast by their quirks. Afterall if it's there why not take advantage of them? Doesn't have to be though, it's still your choice.

MWO Problem #4: The 'Get Gud' mentality.

Agree, though we're seeing MWO's fair share of elitist players. Every PvP arena shooter will have this group of specials.

MWO Problem #5: Smaller player base

And it's getting smaller. Sadly we don't see PGI doing anything to directly attract new players, only to retain what's left, and retain those who do attract new players, eg youtubers and streamers.

One suggestion I have is to take away the capability of choosing the map and match type.

I rather instead of random or voting, to introduce banning to QP map/mode voting. Pick one to ban. Picking 1 to ban means you allow 3 maps to proceed. That will result in more maps rotating in. Mode selection needs to be more than 2 though, make it 4 as well.

A second suggestion is to reward people for doing their jobs.

There are already rewards, just gotta make them more attractive.

I'd suggest also keeping the Tier system, but making it invisible to both the player and the general public..... Define four variables, one for each level of Mech.. and use that variable as the basis for the Tier rating for that particular Mech style

This tier system if placed on per mech class (light medium heavy assault), cannot account for personal development. Hence if you're in tier 1 for lights and now start playing assault, you're not really tier 5 since you have accumulated map/mode/gameplay/etc knowledge and experience. I feel that the current tier system is ok with just one change: downward ticks need to be bigger, much bigger than it currently is. Also upward ticks are heavily weighted on wins, need to remove that. Tier movements can have wins/losses factored in, but must be weighted mostly on individual performance, IF the tier system is meant to assess individual skill, rather than teamwork and other aspects of gameplay.

Get rid of any reliance on win/loss ratio; these are things you can't control. Get rid of any reliance of the Kill vs. Death ratio as well, for the same reason.

Except that both are things you can control. Perhaps control is too strong a word. Influence might be better. But if you are going down this route, just remove all public access to stats. No more leaderboards, jarls lists, etc which are just poisons for toxic players. If you want stats, keep it private as part of your profile.

Small player base is a problem, not really a cause of the others.

The game has mostly run it's course. Such is life. Just enjoy what is left while it is left. It has not reached criticial low income levels yet and probably wont for a while.

It can be revived tho. It's not impossible. Look at Eve Online, launched in 2003, still around after 15 years with around 3k active monthly players on Steam.

And yes, if you go to the EO forums you find the same posts like declining population, arguing over EO launcher vs Steam launcher for accurate population numbers, has its own niche and small annual conference, got hit on the head with accusations of diverted resources to build other games (eg Dust 514, Valkyrie) to "cash out and let EO die", etc etc.

If anything both games are running the same track with EO years ahead. PGI would do well to see what worked and what didn't.

Dear OP.. if you didn't say it yourself that you are new, I would not have much trouble guessing it..

You still have the spark of hope.. and it is adorable as it is misguided..

I was where you are a few years ago when I first started playing.. so many ideas on how to make the game better...

Since then, most of those ideas got shut down, many were stomped out of existence, many have been gutted and beheaded by those "self glory" players, and a lucky few actually got implemented - into MW5.

I've ever only managed to actually influence the game TWICE, in years of effort..

Both times were small, cosmetic changes..

At this point, any big changes are highly unlikely to happen - all serious design effort goes to MW5..

So keep dreaming young grasshopper.. we hope MW5 pans out, so that in some distant future, a proper MWO2 happens.
