I' ve set up my linebacker RL witk 8 hml, heatsinks and a mk I targeting comp.
I use the build as a side poker: hiding//shoot left side or right//hiding etc.
Alpha stats: dmg = 80 heat = 1.37. Nice.
Sidepoking: 40 dmg heat 1.94. Incredible. Talking about sustained firepower...
The loadout works for me; however, it' s the first time I' m wasting 1.5 tonnage on a mech (no leftover hardpoints).
Am I overlooking something ??

Nope. It is just the way the game works. There are a lot of predominately clan omni-mechs where the best builds aren't always the optimal build and if you decide to run that build, you can end up with up to 10 tons or so wasted. I have always advocated that what I can "under-tonning" a mech should boost the speed and agility of the mech so there was an advantage to doing it but PGI doesn't seem to agree.

...post your build.
You should never have unused tonnage in a properly crafted Mech.

Wow ! Examples ? To the poster above: have you read what Angel said ?? Have you read what I' ve been posting? Thought I made myself clear on the loadout. Proof ???

I can't imagine a world where you have 10 tons unspent in an "optimal build". It's just flat out incompetence. .02 tons? Sure, happens all the time on the Shadow Cat and other Omnis. Beyond that, there are so many ways to cut and flex on a build that there's really no excuse for having anywhere above fractions of a ton unused.

Slipped in a TC1 and extra DHS. No wasted tonnage. Greedy armor distribution on the head, but don't want to cut too much from a fast-engine Mech that needs its legs. Take from the arms instead if it bothers you.

See original post, uploaded image of loadout on imgur. There is a difference between us in omnipod setup.

Omnipod setup isn't why you have 1.5 unspent tons. Drop the actuators and cut from armor to add two extra DHS. You aren't going to be doing any shots with them when 75% of your weapons are torso mounted.

To add to this, there is very little reason to add hand actuators. All they do is increase arm hitboxes and (maybe?) crit pad. Lower arm actuators are useful if you want horizontal arm motion, but are not as important as heatsinks in this build.

THX, now the build is even better !! I' ve never quite understood the concept of actuators. Are there builds out there that benefit from actuators??

There are two times you'd want the actuators:

1. If a considerable portion of your firepower is mounted in the arms.

2. If your mech has bad torso agility, having the actuators can help make up for that a little bit (assuming you have some arm guns).

Since the Linebacker is absurdly obnoxiously agile, point #2 does not apply. Its torso agility is more than enough to track any target of any size and speed. The actuators are thus not very helpful on this particular chassis.

Ive been running this build for a long time, but I do 4 er mediums and 4 heavy mediums on the other side. I like having the extra range for QP.

UAV's too. Thats the main reason I have the actuators usually, because pugs never ever shoot them. 2 ER ML's is just enough to put them down.

Forgot about that one, but then again some mechs have high enough torso pitch to handle it without arm guns.

I edited, but actuators are just horizontal right? I couldn't remember for sure so i took it out lol.

Upper arm actuators let you aim your arms up. They are present on all mechs, so actually you don't even need to add actuators to shoot at UAVs. You just need arm guns in general.

Lower arm actuators let you aim your arms sideways.

Hand actuators work as placebo crit padding I guess?

Lower arm actuators can be useful, they allow your arms to turn further left/right which can be quite useful (Dragon is a good example of this with the gun arm). Hand actuators are more or less useless. They potentially make your arm hitboxes a bit bigger which helps them shield better, but other than that potentially small benefit they are useless in MWO.

Stormcrow gets tiny hands if you want the aesthetic.
