Well this is a surprise.

Frankly it has never bothered me in the slightest, but I like a problem to think about.

Seems the consensus is that no one really wants to select mechs after map has been selected.

Most players are brainless potatoes and think it's perfectly cool to drop with whatever mech on whatever map. Dropping a brawler on Polar or a LRMer on Solaris is so utterly pointless and yet people here think it's cool.

That would be fantastic OP, conquest matches for example might actually end up being about the nodes instead of hold 2 murder reds. Alpine peaks might end up being the long range sniper war it was supposed to be instead of an ugly, weird brawl over one of the hills. Caustic would be an almighty srm brawl fest. It would be great, please ignore the silly billies in this thread who don't understand what constitutes good game design.

Nah I get that and would certainly adjust my mech if I got certain maps. But you know it's only a game and working to get a good game on a not good map is fine.

I wonder what Polar HighLRMlands would look like...

Polarhighlands would be very popular as a disco location as all the lAMS would light up the sky.

So if the mechanic already exists, why can't we have it in quick play? I'd settle even for just changing the loadout or variant on the same chassis. Or the exact same weight. Or the same class. I'll take anything other than map roulette. It's dumb as all hell for the match to be decided because the opposing team had all the LRM boats who all voted for polar. Or for it to be decided because the opposing team had all the flat ground brawlers, and all blew their multipliers on Solaris. The result of the map vote should not be the deciding factor in match outcome. Letting us all prepare for the map and mode is just keeping the playing field level. Hell, if they let you decide on your mech after knowing the map, I'd be totally cool with no map voting at all. But our current system is just dumb.

Perhaps what should happen, if you were not to allow mech swapping, The voting would just give the percentage chance of the Map coming up. The game randomly selects the map from the percentage.

Needs to go back to random, maybe mode voting, but I'd rather not.
One reason why I stopped playing is because I'm tired of seeing the same 2 or 3 maps a thousand times in a row.

Minimal viable product, it's a thing.

The better solution to this is that the MM should take a second, 1 second, to shuffle the mechs based on a few criteria so both teams get at least sorta the same chances.

If you have the 24 mechs you can try and put the LRM boats and ECM mechs (for instance) evenly amongst the teams.
I'm sure there are a lot better criteria smarter pilots could come up with, just an example.

MM could try and even things out using some smart criteria.
But since tiers are not even skill based (not even pretending to be) its absurd to think that we would ever get a better MM, or voting option (if we have to keep voting then Veto like Solaris would work nicer me thinks)
And btw, totally random was better as voting of any kind just skews the results really.
When it was random, sure you got Therma with a laser boat, but you also got frozen city, and not because someone stacked his votes.
Also it's another loading screen basically.

With random you had to keep building mechs around a little bit of contingency, just a little.

You can also try and not min max to the absolute possible maximum.
Maybe better do take an extra heatsink just in case you drop on a hot map, etc.
Maybe do take some lasers as backup on the LRM boat instead of stripping all the armor off of it (and yes I've seen these things)

Also being able to make you're build work on any map was part of the skill, it's just QP not competitive after all.
Laughable complaining about this when you can drop as tier 1 with tier 3 and 4 together or against, especially as player numbers continue to dwindle.

But ehh, minimal FP stuff in a few weeks.

RANDOM MAP SELECTION

Mech change after map select? I say no because it takes away from the whole talent aspect of a match. If a player can take a brawler build into a match and do very well on a map that doesn't compliment that type of build then they have some talent up their sleeve. It's easy to make an lrm build as well, but on some maps those builds don't perform perfectly. Talent changes the obvious outcome of winning no matter what..and if we give everyone the choice to change a mech after the fact then that takes away from individual design in the mech garage alongside talent on a map

If this is such an issue (which I really don't think it is) why not a map elimination algorithm where there's a complete list of all the maps on screen and they are played one by one in a random order, and you can see the list. The first quarter of the list I imagine would be unpredictable and eventually people would be able to predict what mech they should play to complement the next upcoming map. Or allow 1 anonymous person of the 24 in game at random the choice of choosing the map and mode.

By the way, if everyone would know the upcoming map everyone would have the same loadout/hardpoints and possibly the same mech.

Thats bad as it puts newbies in an even worse state since they probably won't have a wide range of emchs for multiple optimised puposes.
