Shout out to CWM, i was pugging faction play for the first time in a very long time just now. It was Rubelite Oasis and incursion. They did a push into the base and wrecked it. Instead of ending it. They battled us hard. Wave after wave they pushed and fought it down to the last man in honorable combat. Great Sportsmanship guys.
PS: The 1 vs 1 at the end when you had it won was probably my most favorite moment of MWO to date. Thank you for that.

What you experienced sounds far more like the farming you'd find on siege (sliver Omega then just stick around for damage/kills).

I've experienced that before, this was not the case. Honorable combat was had and there was no reason for their entire team to make a circle and 1 vs 1 me in that circle when the match was already over.
