yeah slow assaults outside a premade group have two issues, you might be left alone and die quickly, or you might miss the action. if you get a bad spawn and teams go a bit unabalnced you might arrive when the match is nearly over.
@Khobai
Ominmechs can only compete with a regular battlemechs if their hardpoints and engines as well as equipment choices are coincidently hitting the sweetspot. That's why for ages the SCR and TBR were great as they had decent engine and no unnecessary fixed extras.
Maybe it is finally time to open up the Omnimechs restrictions, they really do not help towards balance and the swapping of Pods really is not that much of an advantage as it always was just a "lore luck roll" if a battlemechs hardpoints could compete with specific pod constellations. But so many omnis just suffer from these locks while those with nearly optimal choices won't even get better becase they are already at that top choice anyways.

For IS the answer is slow assaults. because fast assaults arnt a viable option for IS. Although admittedly XL is less penalizing on IS assaults now since LFE is almost as bad. But that engine change was so terrible PGI really needs to revert it.
Depends on the defining of "fast". For some its ~70kph as the "fast" target. Yes, compared to that "slow" assaults are much better for IS. However, there's "slow" and then there's SLOW. If you're going mid 40s, you are going WAAAAAY too slow. A realistic target most IS assaults can hit while still having good to amazing firepower is mid to high 50s. It just gives you that extra kick to keep up with the rest of the team and lets you maneuver during combat.
Also... what is that engine rant... that makes 0 sense.

Depends on the weight.
Once you hit 90, speed doesn't mean jack anymore without the firepower and the staying power to back it up.
