I'll be grabbing the roughnech. 4 ultra 2,s. Or the hellbringer. See how I feel this afternoon. Don't think I need c-bills.

If PGI is offering a free Hellbringer, and you don't currently own one, the objectively correct answer is always Hellbringer.

See I don't really do Clan, I main IS. I'd rather use a grasshopper over a hellbringer. So for me an inner sphete mech, wins hands down, most of the time.

I still don't have a lot of mechs. In a C-bill free world, the Crab seems like a good pick-up, but it is also cheap. So I was thinking about Mauler or Kodiac. Maybe the Grasshopper. Mauler or Crab seem most inviting though. Suggestions?

I picked the Mauler MX90 (c) during the X'mas event. It has turned out to be the most expensive free mech. It is slow. Brutally slow and the loadout I have tried are full dakka like 6 AC2, RAC 2s and AC2 and the UACs. I now have 2 LBX10, 2 SRM6+A and skilled to move around a bit better with survivability, thanks to a build that was shared here. It is ok but I wouldn't pick the Mauler. But it's up to you. Try it in the testing grounds and see if you like the mobility. The Kodiak is even more sluggish.
I'm thinking of picking the Orion IIC this time around. Not entirely sure yet.

Well I ended up picking the crab. I have to say the crab is a bit underwhelming in a world where 1 in every 6 mechs has a pair of gauss or heavy gauss. I lose my side torso so quickly I realised you just can’t be as aggressive in a crab yet at the same time, you still have to be aggressive enough to get in dat range bracket for mpl. I started to kinda retreat getting the crab as anything it does, the huntsman does it better.............

I think getting the Hellbringer is honestly subjective to personal preference from the rewards. It's a great mech with it's high hard points, laser vomit alpha potential, and it's ECM but people need to know beforehand that you will be investing a hefty amount of skill points to be effective. I'm finally starting to enjoy it after a heft amount of 41 skill tree points, but still haven't experienced it's full potential with the enhanced ECM skill tree nodes and will invest in some needed durability.
I recommend it only if you have a decent amount of resources to invest GXP into the skill tree or are willing to suffer with the grind to get the SP.
