had 5 games of incursion now, and they where all enjoyable. even though both sides had new faces, games where all quite close, yet relaxed.
will continue tomorrow and hopefully see some of you guys around on the PTS, and afterwards ;)

*aftershowparty is in PinkParrotBase, drinks are free - except for filthy rich Steiners. but as you throw your spacemoney around anyway.. ;)

Faction War..... Like in team Faction Play? "Faction = Bad"......no can do GI !! I can't see a single reason to become involved with a mode of play that drove entire teams out of this game.....

No thanks ! GLHF.

The mode drove teams away? No lies please.

What drove people away, the teams, was PGI - Long Tom. That is what drove 1,000s of people away in the space of 4 weeks.

Typical. For years, YEARS, I clung to Marik loyalty like a Titanic survivor on a floating door, and when I finally leave because NO ONE GIVES A **** ABOUT MARIK they open up a damned storyline featuring them. Thanks, PGI, thanks a bunch. You can kiss the Captain General's arse.

Also, I'll try to get onto the PTS tonight.

That long tom comment did it, and it was bull ****. What killed faction play was when they turned it into another quick play mode. Instead of keeping it siege only. What I saw on pts is them turning faction into nothing more then a generic numbers game. Looked as though they were wiping away faction choice. In the end I got better things to do.

Partial-truth.

What drove people away was 12 mans stomping Pugs. The long tom was simply the icing on the cake.

When the QP maps were added there was an uptick in users playing the mode. So it did not kill it at all.

QP maps were an OK addition.

Long Tom was not.

Not partial. There was 1,000s of people that left the mode (and game) and many units. I mean look at MercStar - 500 player unit disintegrated in the space of 4 weeks once Long Tom came out. My own OG Unit, 54MR went from 140 active to about 30 in the space of 2 weeks.

There was at least 30 active units whos players/members quit, totalling thousands of players.

The stomps happened since day 1. It never stopped people queuing up or drove them away like Long Tom did.

I'm willing to bet there have been more pugs who've lost interest in FW than players in units.

Any idea where we can find actual numbers?

PGI won't provide information.

We can only go on gut feel in this instance. I could probably work out some of it with help from a few people as to how many units (and players) disintegrated around L/T.

The casuals/solo's, impossible to know. That said FP has always been designed and aimed at team play. If solo's decided not to play the mode in this way, and thus do not like it, that is their decision/choice and they must live with it.

PGI released player numbers for faction play from Tukayyid 1 and 2. We dont have population numbers post long tom, but you can tell how bad the queue is simply by attempting to get faction games now. Ash is entirely correct, there used to be a large amount of units that all had 250-500+ members playing faction play (they were all mostly really bad units, but made up for it with sheer quantity), all of which don't exist anymore

Yeah Tuk numbers is all there is unfortunately. I mean one can go through the leaderboard manually (I've done that for some information previously).

However it doesn't have a breakdown of Solo vs Group at any stage.

I mean even units like HHoD would have 4-5 team speak channels FULL of 12mans running.
Same for the Strana Mechty & other hubs. There would be rooms filled with people, you could just Teamspeak hop and find a team to drop with in seconds.

This was all pre-Long Tom. No word of a lie here, within 4-6 weeks of it those rooms were emptied and many units died with it. It was THE largest killer of Faction Play activity.

As a casual player who came to this game as a lorehole, I can attest to this. In Tuk 1 and 2, when Russ said -if I recall correctly- that 17% of the community played the mode during those events, I was a member of SO. SO had just shy of 500 members when phase 3 and LT and the unit tax descended. How many are left? A few dozen? Even that?

For nearly 2 years I played CW exclusively. LT and the removal of all that made CW fun/enticing to the casual/lorehole fan was removed. That killed the mode for all but the most dedicated players. S**t, even MS -once a terror of CW- all but disintegrated.

Damn shame. All of it. But hey, remember,Russ said the mode was "fine"..ffs.

Back in the day, I never had a problem getting "stomped" by better teams.

I even had a 12man of EVIL (SCAR's EVIL mind you) stop mid stomp to give us pointers.
I had a drop against MS in phase 2, where my team (1stH and some SOs) were so drunk we couldn't open the gates on Boreal, and they helped us finish the drop with much hilarity. Nearly the same thing with KCOM.

Also, remember, back in phase 2, if the "comp" teams were running the table on a given planet, you could always just switch to a different planet and roll the dice. When LT killed the population and Russ "fixed" CW by removing the buckets, that potential was removed. That change ensured casuals had zero place in CW from then on as anything other than cannon fodder for better groups. That's on PGI not the 12-mans.

I tried installing the MWO PTS but I need to patch 20gb? I tried to use the Repair Tool like it said under the "Pro Tip" section but the tool doesn't work.

I may as well ask now instead of later:- If I pick a faction in the PTS, will I be committed to it in the main game? I don't think I will be but it's better to ask.

Nothing in the pts effects your live account. Pts is a good way to test out hero mechs you might like to buy later.
