So. The clans have heavy lasers.......introduced In 3059.....

Where as innersphere x pulse laser, was prototyped in 3055 and as used in limited numbers in FedCom Civil War........

So, we can tweek the value of IS pulse laser, just increase the range and heat and maybe slightly the damage, and wola, a new weapon is available in game!

Doesn’t need much effort for the devs I believe,

For those shouting “but but but balance” it’s pretty much a hotter clan mpl on the inner sphere side. PGI culd just use some cool colors, like orange and purple, or just white, for light effect of various sized x pulse laser, or just keep the same color and change the duration and pitch of the wub.

Please PGI, make this request of your fanboys happen!

What niche does this version if the x pulse fill? I can't figure it out. Like, in what scenario would you rather have x pulse over a standard pulse laser?

It could be balanced, no doubt. The problem is that it is a prototype weapon during the FCCW-era. With very few exceptions like the L-AMS, PGI has not included prototype equipment. If we include prototypes on a larger scale, PGI would need a whole new big upgrade on the scale of the FCCW timejump, because everyone wants his favourite prototype weapon. That may not be a bad thing per se but PGI's resources seem to be focussed on MW:5.

i like the way they worked in living legends. like a pulse laser but with short pulses and longer gaps between pulses and continuous fire.

i mean its better than every laser just being a stats tweaked copy of the exact same mechanic.

If I'm not wrong, the X Pulse have longer range but also more heat generation, kinda like the difference between ERML and ML.

You could just have them as ER-pulse lasers essentially, just it wouldn’t be very interesting.

So like a laser RAC? I could see such a thing, though Considering RACs jam, need ramp up time and have to be led, there would need to be significant drawbacks to balance it - probably heat, or some sort of cool down mechanic after a certain number of shots. Just not sure it brings a lot new to the table...

Yeh i know. But there's like no niche that x pulses fill that can't already be filled with weapons like standard/er/pulse lasers and ppcs.

IS is just closing the gap to clantech with the X Pulse a bit more. Thats why there is most likely no niche gameplaywise.
Most of the newer IS Tech is just catching up with clantech.

only that there is hardly any gap in MWO

indeed, they patched the clantech to IS levels instead of haveing the progression with new tech to match IS tech with clan tech over time.
Sure it would phase out some older tech over time but would that be so bad overall? Allways haveing something to look forward to beside new mechs...or better new mechs that come allready equiped with new tech?

PS: Yes the gap would be a problem and most people would play clantech for a time but isn't that what happend anyway until the patches rolled in?
Now they have kinda cornered themself in with new tech bringing little to the table.

they cornered themselves since November 2012 so nothing new as well, they can bring all the MMLs, iHGR, iHeavy Lasers, ER Lasers, VSPLs, Plasma Cannons/Rifles and HAGs all day but at the given "Non-Role-Warfare" you can also change the color of the IS Pulse Laser add some more range for more heat and call it a day. (Range brackets don't exist, so the main-gain of that extra heat is lost anyhow)

The only ways i think x pulse can be balanced is to either lengthen beam time together with an increase in heat generated (whuch would just make it a shorter ranged erml) or have short burn duration and really jack up the heat. Like spicy, "my wlf2 is now a direstar" level of spicy. That wouls give it a niche of Beibg A Joke but i don't thibk that's counted.

If x pulse was introduced, it'll just be clan pulse lite. That doesn't really add much to the game, imo.

Until they get HAGs, Laser Heat sinks (proper ones and not just a quirk like current), Laser insulators (2 DHS effect for .5ton), and other.

Where does this concept of "must fill niche" come from?

Seriously, it seems like you're attempting to hold everyone else hostage to some rule that doesn't exist, has never existed, and in my opinion is a dumb concept for the BattleTech universe.

Whatever 'niches' may have existed in other games, or in BT, or might have started out in the original release of the MWO, no longer exist or apply for the current version of MWO.

It (the concept of weapon 'niches') is not even moot...

The sheer amount of different guns the IS has already... and you want more? And to be completely honest, Xpulse is way better than heavy laser. HL fills a neich roll for clans right now, but they are still too effing hot.

IS LPL CLPL XLPL CERLPL
10 heat 10 Heat 14 Heat 13 Heat
9 Damage 10 Damage 9 Damage 10 Damage
7 Tons 6 Tons 7 Tons 6 Tons
2 Crits 2 Crits 2 Crits 3 Crits
300m 600m 450m 690m

(Max Range from TT 1 Hex = 30m)

I hope the formatting isn't changed much but just from the Large series the IS XLPL is just an ER pulsar laser, though MW4 had it being blue. As for Living Legends it wasn't in when I last played.

*edit and the formatting didn't hold. Why can't they have forum post hold their formatting with spaces greater than 1 space.

Need to do it in tables....
IS LPL C LPL XPL ER LPL
Heat TT 10 10 14 13
Damage TT 9 10 9 10
Ton 7 6 7 6
Crit 2 2 2 3
Range TT 300 600 450 690

as mentioned that little extra range isn't worth the extra heat - because the short and medium range brackets don't exist

That 150 meters can mean getting more damage on target over the standard pulse laser. Though the clan ER Pulse for an extra 90 isn't much but with the way the Skill tree is that starts getting better.
