By a sample of 3.5 scouting games you really can define how people are feeling for these awesome FP 'changes'. Can't wait for them on live server.

is it still broken? i was onthere for a few hours yesterday and even when we had 12+/12+ on each side no drops triggered at all.

We had 12/10 during the scouting phase but no one dropped at all.

Id be willing to queue up if the game isnt still broken like yesterday

that's what I'm hoping got fixed or solved, there were pilots, but no matches started, I should be available in an hour from now, to check and see if it was fixed or still just a sitting in Queue game

I will try and stream the PTS for a couple hours tomorrow after I've finished with a MWO Comp Shoutcast.

I've been trying but I can't stay queued up forever, and the way the MWO icon flashes every couple of seconds now is maddening. There is no reason for it, don't @me because nothing happened again.

Also - PAUL - Questionssss!!!

As I'm gonna stream tomorrow and attempt to get matches going -->HERE<--... Knowing the specific stuff to look out for might help unless it's just backend data for you. I reckon I can get a decent number of people to help out either way at least for an hour.

  • What are you after exactly for testing of this PTS we should look out for? If so - please let us know.
  • Would it help if you make it Scouting only? 12v12 Invasions are gonna struggle to kick off I think.
Now guys (notPaul) - I realise locking it to scouting for most people, kinda sucks. However if we can get matches actually going in scouting to properly test things, depending on what that is. Would you all then agree this would be the best course of action. That way we get matches, actually test and so on for the benefit of this PTS/Patch.

Faction Play Update - Pts Session Apr 8

It's been a long while since Faction Play has seen any kind of update and this PTS shows the first big step in that direction. This update introduces 2 major component upgrades including the Match Maker and a story driven conflict system. These two systems break down as follows:

[color=orange]Match Maker Update:[/color]
In order to balance out gameplay discrepencies between groups and solo players, the new Match Maker algorithm has a new prioritization feature which will put groups against groups at the very beginning of match creation.

What this means is that there is a set amount of time where people enter the queue and the Match Maker holds match creation until that timer expires. This creates one big queue of group and solo players combined. Once the hold timer expires, the Match Maker starts creating matches by putting the biggest groups against each other.

The Match Maker continues matching groups based on their size from largest to smallest until it has exhausted all of the groups in queue. Any odd sized teams are now filled with solo players based on their Elo. The idea is that higher ranked/skilled players will be used to fill the largest group matches first.

Once all group matches are filled, the remaining solo players are matched up using Elo from highest to lowest. This in turn balances out skill level in the remaining matches. Once this is complete, all of the matches are released to the dedicated game servers and the hold timer is started once again.

[color=orange]Story Driven Confict System:[/color]
This new feature is the first time that the game will drive conflicts happening in Faction Play. It will allow us to create story lines that play out over the course of a Conflict using a series of Phases. Basically consider a Conflict as a FP Event and that Conflict is make up of mini-events we can call Phases. For example, this PTS is playing out one Conflict consisting of 3 Phases (see image below). Once a conflict completes, the story arc ends and whatever the conflict was about will be resolved (planet switch, or story foretelling.)

[color=orange]What we need tested:[/color]
- Can you see the story unfold across phases. (You have a 6hr window for each phase for this test)
- Does the game mode change between phases?
- Play in various sized groups if possible. From 12-man to 2 man.
- Does the War Log counter increase with your faction's wins?
- Does the faction with the most wins actually win and the story progresses accordingly?

[color=orange]Some stuff we know about:[/color]
- If you encounter an "Error 63", retry queuing up.
- With a lower volume of people participating in a PTS, it's suggested that you try during your time zone's peak hours. For example, North America would be best played during the hours of 5-9PM PDT.
- Added 4:37PM PDT - The story text is not showing in the UI as planned. (Role Select and Mission description tab.)


[color=orange]Some stuff you don't know about:[/color]
- Rewards for all things CB and XP related have been increased by various amounts with a minimum of 15% increase. This includes winning by objective and all in-game activities that give rewards (kill assists etc).

[color=orange]Flow to get into a match:[/color]

When you first enter Faction Play, you will be asked to choose your role in the conflict based on the story. (Note: Story is missing, will include here.)

After selecting your role, you will be asked to choose which side of the fight (Faction) you want to fight on.

You are then asked to confirm that these choices are you want to make because you are locked into the Role/Faction until the end of the Conflict.

Phase 1 is all scouting, so you'll need to switch to your scouting drop deck and then click Fight Now. After that you'll be in queue.

Yeah I was wondering that.

I mean the Match Maker isn't built yet if my following of updates is correct. Thus just wondering for absolute clarification and also if scouting might be the best option from a pure volume perspective.

PTS returns a network error for me atm. Is there a way to check PTS server status on this site?

Kudos to Ash for organizing an "event", far better than complaining about not meeting any other players.

Give faction loyalty medallions, give c-bill/xp medallions. If they really wanted people to test the PTS they would have been out with the exclusive rewards already. This is actually disappointing.

Thanks! That should be linked in the article. It looks like that would download the normal game, which I wouldn't use since I got it through Steam.

The portal says I can avoid downloading everything by using the Repair Tool and changing an option. Firstly...why isn't that option the default? LOL. Secondly, where is the repair tool? The portal should provide a button to run the tool or simply integrate that tool into its own process.

Now the stupid thing is download 20GB because the thing it tells me to use isn't linked. It doesn't even show up in the Start menu.

Furthermore, there seems to be no way to cancel this 20GB download within the MWO Portal! That's just stupid. It's going to take 1 hour 30 on this connection and take up precious NVMe space. (There's no reason to copy most of the files if it's going to read the assets from MWO. Just the game engine and 'business logic' layer.)

The user experience for this is really bad. No wonder it tends to be empty.

EDIT: From the control box of the MWO Portal, the Small Window Mode seems to make the text blotchy. If the window can be different sizes, it could just be a resizable window? There's an I-beam cursor over the text but seems to be sized as a raster graphic using a primitive method instead of changing the font size as real text. Also, if text cannot be selected it shouldn't have an I-beam cursor upon hover.

The menu across the top of the MWO Portal just seems to think across to the website. Don't present these things as application tabs if they are web navigation links.

EDIT2: After all that, including the 6 patches which followed, I got...an error message.

EDIT3: Despite that, the PLAY button was enabled and clicking it has launched the client. I was able to sign in. It loaded my account with my recent Mechs.

Went to Solaris as Steiner and the queue was 1/2.

Why on earth is the timer set to 8 seconds, though? Did someone get confused about timestamp data types?

Well, from 11:30 to 13:00 CEST, during scouting mode there were just 2/2 people; 50% required to start the match. Later, it was mostly 1/0, 1/1. After spending some time in Academy, it was still 1/0 on 1 PM.
