Removing it for Tier 5 is fine with me, newbies typically lack a plethora of 'mechs.

Newbies can still use the free starter mechs if the one mech they owned is locked in a QP session. I dunno about the guys who suicide out the instant they see something they don't like, but I've never had more than one mech at a time locked in QP.

Those starter mechs are very rarely worth using. Not to mention the wasted (G)XP newbies sorely need.

Most I've had locked is two... Early game headshot followed by a disco.

At the risk of sounding like a ****, OP could spend five minutes to research before posting these questions and find answers to all of them.

Tier 5: Mediums-Heavies only
Tier 4: All mechs,
Tier 3: All mechs, mech locking
Tier 2: All mechs, mech locking, R&R
Tier 1: All mechs, mech locking, R&R

R&R needs a revamp though. Mech's should be locked after the game for 1min per 1,000,000Cbills of repairs, ticking down proportionally, with the option to insta-repair by paying the remaining CBill amount (or a nominal 25MC).

cool, more reason to weight 20 minutes for a game.

not to mention for reason for people to hide the entire match.

Whats with all the whiny people lately? just stop playing the game for a bit, relax, and then come back.

Besides, what I'm asking is why this is so in QUICK PLAY?! This is the mode which is supposed to be QUICK PLAY. Not Restricted Play and bad MM on top of that.

You obviously have no idea what would make this game great.

Mech lock is fine.

Get c-bills to buy other mechs you actually want to play or buy duplicates.

Is your precious really that precious? Then go get a spare or two.

There is a reason why I have 2 Urbanmech K-9s. <shrugs>

I mean, if you play FP or plan on it, having certain duplicates may be a good thing.

Yeah and in this case, I don’t even see it as much of a punishment, just a way to not only discourage all sorts of bad behaviors (rushing in mindlessly)

wait , rushing in mindlessly is a tactic for mePosted Image

Lol.
I try to put at least a little bit of thought into it before I rush in, but, well...yeah.
Lots of duplicate variants (though different builds) too.

Doing 500 damage and getting kills while the team runs away from enemies has taught me that QP needs to seriously get rid of the locking mechanism. Besides, if I want to watch and learn, I'd be watching something intelligent like Ash's or Baradul's streams, not my team's Mech Racer Online.

Yeah, isn't it amazing that the experienced players are relucatant to let go of a meaningless restriction in a game mode that's meant to be like instant action?

Fine, if it's common, I'm glad people can keep it intact in a game mode meant to be like Instant Action. Forget I ever said anything. I can see where the priorities are here.

Honestly, just take a break from the game for a bit. You are burnt out if this is annoying you at this point.

It's not stupid at all.

You wanna die early and leave a game before its over - select another mech. Otherwise, don't die early.

Pretty straightforward.

when your leveling things the last thing you want is some squirrel to drag things out for no other reason than to pad his stats or get whatever glee trolls get when they ruin everyones day. adding another 5-10 minutes to a task that already takes way to long. mechs should only be locked down as needed to prevent suicide runs, if you were in the game for at least a third or maybe half of the game clock before biting the bullet you should get that mech back. maybe not in fp though, that would encourage people to leroy rather than going in waves.

I really doubt "I'm not going to suicide because I won't be able to use this 'mech for a while" has ever crossed anyone's mind while playing the game.

As such, I don't see what the mechanic adds other than an occasional annoyance.

It's a fairly soft method of making people at least slightly "invested" in a game. It isn't the be-all and end-all of stopping stupid behavior, but it isn't a major burden either, as mechs can be just changed at the click of a button.

One HUGE reason the lock is a good idea......

Map choice. If people are leveling a mech, and they drop on a map they don't like, they could just Quit Match, and rejoin queue with the same mech.

At least the way it is now, most players will want to field the same mech on the next map, and wait it out, or do a one-off match on another chassis.

To be honest, I want to lock the player (pilot) until the end of the match. People do suicide/leeroy when they dont like the game, those die early in the game should not be allowed to start a new game until the end, or least 10 minutes after the last game starts, we dont need leeroy, seriously.

While it would help to stop suicidal charges, it would also be salt to the wound on those who die unexpectedly early - the light who got took a freak double HGauss snap shot while peeking, the assault who got put in bravo lance on HPG and was wolf packed as his team nascar'd, and so on. There are reasons that even good players die early on occasion.
