Hello all,

So I'm looking at the MWO leaderboard on the website and I see that the current #1 player has played 477 matches in the last seven days (season 34).

That's a lot of matches...

On average, if one stays to the end of a match, you can do about five matches an hour in solo QP. Even if you double that number to ten matches per hour, that's still close to 48 hours of play in one week, almost seven hours per day.

Every day.

I like the game, but that's still a lot of MWO, don't you think?

Good hunting,
CFC Conky

It's more to do with how someone can dedicate a lot of time to a job. So, in that sense, the guy who's played that many games in a season actually loves dedicating a lot of time to the game. Besides, it might even be their second job or something (streaming on Twitch or something). 7 hours a day? Sounds about right for a time dedicated job.

Dame is the only streamer in the Top 10. Just into 300 games, doesn't stream all the time though.

Streaming usually slows you down as well, not speeds you up.

You'll find most in that situation - do not wait till game end and usually die fairly early on as well.

Except Mon Pax while he was around cranking out 1,000 wins a season and consistently decent decent numbers dmg wise. Now THAT was some time investment.

Monpax was more than decent... I have seen him alone in a IS Jenner against 5 players and win the game... 3 of them was more than 90% damn fresh... And none in critical state... Is one of the better bad *** last stands I have seen in this game...

I have never understood the fervor some people put toward grindy leaderboard stats like Most Wins. I did about 500 matches two months in a row once and I almost completely burned out of the game. I don't know how someone can do over 2,000 without breaking a sweat.

I mean maybe if you were spending all that time getting better it would be rewarding, but most of these guys don't seem to care about their performance. All they seem to care about is just grinding out more matches to climb a leaderboard most people view with disdain.

Some people need their stats to be high to justify themselves. Be that as a player or as a person is anyone’s guess.

Others, just play, a lot. It's probably the only game they play. The fact that they get so high on the leaderboard is just how the leaderboard plays out.

Could depend on what people do for a living. 5 years ago I held a job that was "on-call". Since I had to be out the door within 10 minutes of a phone call, my options for doing things were rather limited. I opted to do small chores around the apartment, then MWO.

If all these guys did was play a lot for the sake of enjoyment, I would sorta understand. But the way some of them play, it's pretty clear they're just playing to get on the front page of the default leaderboard. They jump into a game, play recklessly, die, quit, re-queue in another mech and repeat thousand+ times a month. Also some of them when they do speak turn out to be quite salty which makes wonder why they're doing this at all.

I dunno I just don't see the point of competitions where time spent is overriding performance metric.

I should have been more specific, I was looking at the stats for 'wins'. On that basis, dropping out of the game as soon as you die could result in a lot of matches, especially if one plays very aggressively, but the other stats like k/d and such are often not nearly as high.

I miss MonPax. He's both really damn good and also fun to play with. Probably has a job or something now so can't have MWO as a second job anymore. :P

Some people get their fun off numbers. If the numbers go down their fun goes down with it. I just come to blow stuff up numbers be damed.

I really don't care for stats anymore because in my opinion, the Kill/lost ratio is kind of not true. One kill should be just that ONE KILL. Not a sum of damages to equal a kill. If I get a kill, ok yay me. If I end up getting killed more often, then I go do something else. Don't give me this meta crap about "git gud" etc., etc. because with monthly changes to this game, it's a wash out as it's getting worse and worse.

Like right now I see WAY too much missile boating it's nuts.

Lets not confuse aggressive with stupid.

Most of the higher win players also have high loss rates.

They play poorly, not aggressively. There is a distinct difference in the two.

i dont know about you, but matchmaker is super slow for me. I can get into 1-5 solid matches an hour assuming i dont immediately die or get steam rolled by being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Sort by matches and you'll see that the majority of players who run a lot of QP matches tend to have sub-par performance. The conclusion is obvious: they die quickly, then disconnect, switch mechs and try to drop again.

True enough, it still takes a lot of time to grind out all those matches though. Then again, dying quickly, then moving on to the next match means you're counting on your team to win the match, no matter what you did. Might as well just play craps...Posted Image
