Back in my day we bought merch not mech-packs to support the Devs:

Jenners use to be light mech terrorists.

Cat C4's lrm 40 was a huge lrm alpha.
Gaus had no charge mechanic.
K2 Dual 20s had no ghost heat.
35 ton mechs had more armor than 20 ton mechs.
The devs played the game and had events as hunt the dev to win prizes.
The devs did charity causes and even gave away a mech for support.
Devs replied using their own fourum.
Devs made videos to sell you hero mechs instead of wall-of-text-buy-now.

Back in my day we had to play on tables, because there were no videogames yet.

Remember when this whole area was nothing but light mechs falling over as far as the eye could see?
Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Back in my day we didn't have a cadet bonus or (semi) optimized trial mechs. You started with stock mechs and you died A LOT!

Back in my day, streak 2s were ct hunting abominations, the real lurmpocalypse occurred, mgs and flamers were for joke builds, QP and GQ were the same thing and I learned to play CW by getting rolled by TCAF during the day and NS and NKVA at night.

Back in my day, we didn't try to NASCAR around each other like chickens; we angrily stared at the central map formation until one side got impatient and pushed and died.

New Old Frozen City Classic really set it for me how much the culture of the game has changed.

Back in my day the Timberwolf was looked down on for having an oversized engine an enormous side torsos, but it was still fun to play because you could do simple rolling pokes with it from cover.

1) Negative agility quirks
2) Civil War Patch reassignment of mech agility values for tonnage class
3) Civl War Patch de synch of engine from agility

Oh. Well, I guess it needed all 3 changes at once. somehow.

You had options...

Back in my day we dropped on Viridian Bog or whatever mudhole came up. And we didn't whine about it.

Back in my day we didn't have no fancy-shmancy mechs. We had sticks; two sticks, and a rock. And we had to share the rock!

Back in my day one of the most terrifying mechs on the battlefield was an un-restricted Awesome 8Q with an XL400 crammed to the gills with medium pulse.

Yeah, but we had to walk uphill, two miles, in the snow, both ways, just to get the rock.

Oh, and we were thankful! Posted Image

LUXURY.

Our Rocks were made with gravel glued together.

And they had single heatsinks.

Aye, you were lucky having glue. We had stick ta gravel together using our own spit and blood. And then we ta eat the thing or go bed hungry!

And you were double lucky having single heatsinks, we had prototype single heatsinks. Every time we tried to dissipate heat we'd have to roll 2d6 and if rolled equal or less than the heat being dissipated we'd suffer an engine crit.

You try telling the young people of today that, they'll never believe you.
