I was wondering if this merc corps is open for complete noobs? I've never played a Battletech or Mechwarrior game before but this one is looking awesome and I'd much rather play with a group then as a Lone Wolf.

Apply here. Not everyone in the group has a huge amount of experience or are hardcore players (by hardcore I mean playing 24/7) though most have some experience and we can train you. Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries is free to download.

EDIT!!!!! And fellow shield brothers/maidens tell me to stop trolling/stalking the forum. I really need to be studying for finals/writing a 5 page paper on the awesomeness that are ppcs melting metal to contribute to global warming climate history.

Thanks to both of you for replying! I'll definitely apply and check Mechwarrior 4 while I'm at it.

I'll get around to it some point soon. Just found out I'm getting a decent tax return, so I have money to get a gaming rig now! So, sometime in the next week or so, I'll get time to apply...

New computers are always fun (especially the actual build process if you are not buying a pre-built unit)

Yeah my next computers gonna be a desktop I build. I love my laptop, but sometimes it's just not powerful enough... it needs to be about 20% more powerful. ^_^

I'm thinking of getting a desktop what motherboard and processing speed would you guys recommend? I know I need 3 or more gb of ram. windows 7 alone use at least 1 gig. gfx I think I can figure out myself but thats not as important right away (or really till MWO comes out)

I'd recommend a 2500k Intel processer. Motherboard is pretty flexible as long as it has the right socket for your CPU... I'd make sure it has USB 3.0 support and enough slots for upgrades down the road depending on your plans (crossfire, additional RAM, etc). 4gb of RAM should be enough, but 8gb is pretty cheap and will give you more wiggle room, and you're right about the gfx card. It's definitely worth holding off on that for a little while if you can, as there's always new cards coming onto the market. Ars Technica has some good system build guides if you have an interest. They do a good job of explaining the process behind their decisions and helped me figure out some things when I built mine last Fall.

Seeing how Ivy Bridge chipsets were just released, I'd recommend looking into that instead of going with Sandy Bridge although Sandy Bridge might be a cheaper option (I've not seen the price point of the Ivy Bridge yet). Better performance at lower power requirements. RAM I'd go no less than 6gb if you end up getting a tri-channel MoBo, 8gb if you get a dual-channel MoBo. Because Win7 is a 64bit OS and the memory registers handle RAM requests in larger chunks and more efficiently you'll have less worries about applications and the way they access memory meaning your RAM will get used more often and without waste. Graphics cards will always be an 'in-flux' hardware decision due to the way Nvidia/AMD produce cards ever other quarter. I'd suggest finding something that has good performance, at least 2gb of DDR5 VRAM, and that will perform well in the games/applications you intend to use it with. I have a 2gb Nvidia 560 Ti and I love it.
