I still have the two assaults from Xmas sitting there. I don't drive Assaults and took them out just to see how bad leveling new mechs is in today's MWO..............yuk. Just too painful and too long of an experience without PT......
I have two and cringe at the thought.
well if you dont level them then what is the point of new mechs? which then brings up the question, what is the point of the game? which brings up another question, why am i wasting my life on this.
my last mad2 is a few points from completeness. the lacerator and stealth whammy are about half way done, and i havent got that far on either the vapor eagle or the la malinche. the mw5 loyalty variants better be worth it.

You play the game to level your Mechs to have a full set of Mechs (some for several roles, tactics and mission profiles) at ready when the placeholder QP is finally removed and the real MWO is released

well - do you have that Mech with sealant and torpedos? At least MWO should have underwater missions when you consider that a mech game of the last century got deep water missions.
Hope you also have a 5-8 AC 2 Boat with jump jets for the missions in vacuum

living legends has underwater **** on some maps. mwo cant do that. lack of mission oriented play in favor of a bunch of cliche arena shooter tropes. battles are fought within a narrow range of environments, same gravity nearly the same narrow temperature band, no account for atmospheric conditions (vacuum should be really hard to fight in on account of heat sinks being mostly useless, and not a cold map like hpg) or changing conditions (extremity from ll is a good example, low gravity asteroid with a high rate of rotation oscillating between scalding hot and frigid at regular intervals).
if we had persistent worlds it would make a lot of sense. you unit might base on an island and be defended by a bunch of underwater mechs. tbr-u would be a great mech for that. but what we have is an arena shooter. maybe mw5+some mods would allow for that kind of thing.

'Crunch Time' seems to be a pretty common phase of game development in the current era. While Russ did mention that MW5 and MWO are separate teams, it would not surprise me one bit if for crunch time some of the MWO staff was repurposed to help get MW5 out the door and/or in the best shape it can be for launch.
MWO is at a point where it can 'coast' for a few months without much issue so long as events and sales of existing packs still have the player base engaged, but pushing MW5 back a few months (namely past Christmas) and/or releasing a buggy or unfinished game could hurt its revenue and longevity significantly.

pr is essentially propaganda. take anything they say with a massive mwo community sized grain of salt.

was probably planned for. the money they made from mw5 pre orders makes up for the gap. they can afford to put development of mwo on hold for a few months. they will get another surge of cashflow when mw5 releases which will either get funneled to their next game or might be used to improve mwo, but i doubt it.

That would be the smart thing to do..
My crazy hope is that they are going to upgrade the game engine to Unreal 4 engine or better..
My fear however, is that they are simply done with MWO, and will enter "maintain game as is, just keep servers on" mode..

The thinking may have been that after the initial community preorder of MW5 there would be a bit less money coming in from mech packs (Whales would always buy things, but the Tuna and Salmon would have to mind their spending) so while it wouldn't be 'good' it would at least be 'less bad' to temporarily move some staff over to MW5 to make the game as polished and content-full as possible for September so that launch can be successful.
We should also be getting the MWO Tournament Supporter Pack announcement in the next few weeks so that's a yearly event that they can count on to generate some revenue. To newer MWO gamers unfamiliar with the pack, the MWO Tournament Supporter Pack offers very good value - 10% XP and C-bill boost until the end of the year (that stacks with hero mechs and premium time), several cockpit items/decals, and extra loot bags for the loot bag events until the end of the year. Last year the TSP was launched June 4th.

If I was super optimistic I'd hope for them working MWO2.0 in Unreal. But that seems highly unlikely.

They do, though PGI has already said they aren't going to go that route.
Also that was a big reason for the presales on the website.. a bigger cut of the profit in sales prior to the Steam preorder.

That during the last FP PTS Mercs seal clubbed the devs so bad that they don’t even want to build or play MWO anymore.
