After last FP changes units means nothing, because:
1. Everyone in the unit can select his own loyalty, faction, side of the conflict.
2. Now, units cant claim a planets, after the changes we have ~10 ended conficts, some one of planets after this, has change owners (now, York, planet in deep clan space on FRR comand). But we cant see unit tags on the map.
3. No units leaderboard now
4. Stupid rule still exist - if u want new unit member, u must pay c-bills for invite
5. Big units trying to teach newbies, and have no rewards for this
PGI, why you so hate units to much?

I'm assuming the leaderboards will get fixed & there will be a way to take planets, eventually.

If there is no move to create unit-locked mechs then I would say they are mostly for branding at this point

The reason for units has been lost to history. A shame really because they did so much to get people in and keep them playing.

Units are the lifeblood of FP (see various posts about the role units play in getting more FP players). As a unit leader, I'm appalled at the lack of forethought (let alone feedback solicited) by PGI in regard to units. Leaders of FP-focused units should have always been a key part of the planning of changes to FP but sadly that hasn't happened.
