I don't mind the odd P mech but it is getting a bit crazy, one day only uncolorable silver mechs will exist lol.

Don't you know? Those nifty-looking Platinum (P) Mechs can be colored! You're not always stuck looking at silver-like coloring 100% of the time!

Have you tried colouring them only some random colours work and even then they look pretty off.

the platinum skin (which I designed) only accepts 50% of the color when paint is applied. I wanted something that wouldn't completely override the metallic nature, and the material limitations mean the white specular highlights are always going to be white.
I suggest using the brightest, most saturated neon colors if you want a color to stand out.

Nothing against your skills but i personally like to color my mechs so when a skin such as this cannot work with many colors i tend to not buy them or use them.. It just seems counter to all the colors i've gotten over the years and it bugs me.. I wish we could remove the fixed patterns back to generic.

I'm surprised that our helpful skin (and a whole JumpShip of other things) designer 'confracto' missed mentioning that when you set the colors, it happens to be worth checking them in the Testing Grounds on various maps. Sometimes the ol' MechLab is a little lopsided when displaying how a given Color & Camo in combination will actually affect the visual perception of a given Mech during gameplay. Therefore it might help you, '', to find out what the actual gameplay Maps cause your Mech to really look like.

Which reminds me... I hope that 'confracto' contracts with PGI in the future, and is the one to make the "UrbanMech IIC" Chassis become something which people can enjoy in MWO's environment in the future. As far as I know, they have the DropShip of skills to pull it off beautifully, and I can imagine the happy crowd they would have for making it a reality. For reference, they have my thumbs-up & complete thanks for making the Corsair's differing arms, as that provides an unusual variety to be enjoyed!

It's art. It's inherently subjective, and not everyone will like everything all the time. I made a decision to limit the use of full color because my experienced opinion says it looks silly, and not good. You're allowed to disagree, and I'm so glad you feel able to, and are able to express that politely. THANK YOU. I'm sorry you don't like it, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that wishes the material system was more capable of dealing with specular colour, but it's so very very much out of my hands now.
Also, don't feel pressured to buy stuff you don't like, that's ok.

Yes, very low diffuse and high spec skins rely on the lighting around them, and are very different looking in different environments. This reason is why there was a a push in the spring to fix a lot of environment probes in maps that had been broken or non-existent so that these platinum skins would even work. They would just look flat-grey in shadows on some maps, or completely black on others. I don't know whether they ever got fixed on the 1v1/2v2 maps.
As for me somehow ever working with PGI again, NO.
It's also not realistic to think that 'Mechs get made by any one person. There's a lot of different specialized skills that go into it, and I that happened to take up enough interest in MWO to learn how to do design work beyond the modeling and texturing I was doing doesn't account for the large handful of other people required, and what a herculean effort it was to get some of their time to make the Crusader happen. But yeah, I was very much in favour of the Urbie IIC happening.
