I finally am able to play on a decent PC, I was playing on an 8 year old Toshiba satellite lappy and thought that was okay.
My cat spilled my coffee on it an killed it, lucky for me and I have a MSI PC with a 1060ti graphics chip/card or what ever, man its like its a whole new game, I can't recommend enough getting a decent PC to play with, each map is a wonder of detail I never saw before and tracking targets is so much easier.
I love MWO even more, an I never thought that possible

If you get a decent gaming monitor with some presets like "Warm", Normal", "Action", "Racing", etc., you don't really have to worry about the gamma being too high or low on maps like Frozen City, Solaris, etc.,

Nice! I had the same experience as you a few years back. I played on a laptop for years, thought I'd maxed out my progression in this game, and then got a desktop. Whoa. I can actually pinpoint in my Jarls history when it happened because I saw a noticeable step change improvement. Turns out that being able to see what you're shooting at is a huge help.

No wonder I suck, I'm still playing on integrated graphics (A10-7700k).
Turns out MWO is PTW in the hardware dept.

MWO is definitely more CPU intensive than most. You just need a decent graphics card, not something top of the line. Shoot for the fastest CPU you can get though.

Something like i5 9400F, 1660ti 6GB and 16GB RAM will help massively.
On something like i7 4700MQ, 8GB RAM and 750ti 2GB laptop, you can run on low settings and keep decent frame rates.

Come again?
It's a locked multiplier CPU, maxing out at 4.1Ghz. MWO craves high clock cycles, and overclocking Intels past 4.6Ghz+ for this game usually gives the greatest gains in smoothing out minimum fps. That requires Intel "K" processors.

Get Ryzen.
But yes, the engine is CPU heavy, so fast CPU and enough RAM and decent, not the top line by any means, graphics should make a world of change. I saw my K/D ration up when I got new graphics, though... After 9 years.
