I am launching the game just with the EXE.

Yeah, that's definitely working. Has some drawbacks, of course:
- no coop play due to inaccessibility of the friends list
- Pilot name will be something like "257"

Coop: Yes you need the Epic launcher for that because its linked to the friendlist there but as long as you don't play coop its fine.
