Think about the Epic thing this way. The first year is essentially paid for open beta. The Epic crowd can bug test.

After a year the actual launch happens and you can buy the "polished" game from whoever you feel like.

All of that assumes there is still a PGI at the end of one year. Posted Image

Maybe they're going to end up like Psyonix, the devs behind Rocket League, and to quote them:

Today is a big day for us here at Psyonix because, just as the headline says, we're officially joining the Epic Games family.

What is a Paragon treatment?

I'm assuming he's talking about City of Heroes.

No I mean Paragon, Epic's attempt at MOBAs. Without getting into the long story, Epic dropped Paragon in Spring 2018 after slowly dropping support of it and jumping on the Battle Royale bandwagon with Fortnite. Short time later, Epic released a ton of Paragon assets for free that has led to the creation and inspiration of what is called the Paragon spinoffs. Some like Core and Predecessor are trying to bring back the Paragon characters and map with modifications people felt Epic missed out on doing, others have been inspired to create their own designs for a MOBA with the modern graphical look and feel, one Ethereal is even daring to redo the traditional MOBA map in a bold new way that will make or break the game and possibly MOBA design.

My point was if MW5 goes down at some point, can Epic release the MW assets?

Highly doubt it. Assets are owned by PGI first, then the lizens for MW games is owned by Microsoft and then Battletech in general is currently with Catalyst games I think.

So Epic would be the very last one in a long chain that would even have the rights to the assets. They don't own the game, they are just publishing it on their storepage and that is only exclusive for a year.
